I've had one of these for a year - this is graded but with a 12 month gaurantee... I think these are great. It will also support the new freeview Playback (Group 2) functions in mid January 2008 (by over the air update

To clarify; the Freeview Playback features are being released a few at a time as the various PVR makers develop satisfactory firmware to upgrade their machines. Humax already comply (roughly) with Stage 1 with v.1.00.15, and all new machines sold over the past few months have this (9200TB and 9200TS).

There's a download of Stage 2 (v1.00.20) available with a known bugs warning. Humax have made it available as a limited beta to users with the experience to roll back to .15 while they fix some bugs before the OTA update.
Humax email
We had hoped to send an over the air download (OAD) that included Accurate Recording and Series Recording in time for Christmas, but due to the last minute changes required this has not been possible. Although we are currently shipping this version of the software with the new PVR9200TBX we are currently finalising the software for the OAD version. This should be completed in the next 2-4 weeks and as soon as it is, it will be made available for manual download and installation from the support section on our corporate website

http://www.humaxdigital.com/hcsa/dow.../PVR-9200T.asp .

The OAD slot has been booked for broadcasting on the 14th to 16th of January 2008 with numerous repeat slots to follow ensuring that our users get this important update. As usual with OAD updates all PVR9200T/TS/TB users will receive this free of charge and automatically, as long as their PVR is set to the default setting to receive updates and the unit is in the standby mode overnight (please refer to your user manual if you are unsure). The details of all of the new features and changes in this new version of the software will be made available on our website.

It's an excellent machine, but I think the saving on a factory-reconditioned older model should be more. The new TB and TS models are around £168 delivered in a nicer-looking chassis (IMO)

I noticed it's described as 'Grade A'. What does that mean? Could that be a cryptic way of saying it's a returned/reconditioned unit? I know other places have used the term 'graded stock' to mean that. :?

Great machine, by the way. I've had one for nearly 2 years and have recommended them to friends on many occasions. Mine was about £210.

Agreed

It's a superb PVR. Don't know how I managed without it

fantastic machine.

I can't wait for the freeview playback group 2 software update.

Are there issues with the beta download of the software for this? How do you rollback to the previous version, just be reinstalling it? I always update via my pc.

Fantastic machine, mine recently got replaced under warranty. It was just coming up to the two year mark when it threw a wobbly! Humax replaced it with what looked like a new one. So my old one will be bench tested, repaired if needed , spruced up and sold on as Grade A stock.

Pesonally i would pay the difference and get a brand new one with the 2 year warranty.
#10
I'd get sky plus
#11
This is £137.49 inc postage (cheapest option)

For another £22 get a brand new one from John Lewis with the voucher code.

These products are all A-grade stock which means they have been factory re-manufactured by HUMAX ELECTRONICS Co, functionally as new, and all come with a complete 1 year warranty!

These products have all been recently manufactured and are predominantly shop returns, many with no fault, they have been through a 're-manufacturing' process and come fully boxed with all accessories and full instructions. The precise software versions of products may vary, but free software updates can be downloaded via 'Over the Air' transmissions when available or from our Support website www.humaxdigital.com/hcsa.

"Minor cosmetic" faults (scratches or scuffing) may be present, but they've been checked to see they work.

Strange though that you can't seem to access that particular page from Humax Home page

Got to agree , a cracking piece of kit. I bought one from John Lewis last year for £182 after a promo code.I prefer the silver one- has that retro vcr look !.Much better than sky+ imho and its YOURS with no subs to loads of channels you wont watch.Apart from my Pure ONE dab for £30 the best money i ever spent on anything technical . Just buy it you wont regret it.

Cheers

Humax Direct are the trading arm for selected items; you can't buy the 9200TB or 9200TS from there, or even find any info on them. It looks like Humax have agreed to stop selling these online and not compete with the shops.

But you can get there from the "Where to Buy" page.

These were £149.99 last week on the Humax site.Would rather pay the extra £20 for a brand new one with 2 yr warranty.
#17
I'd rather have a refurb unit tbh, but there should be a bigger difference between new/refurb price (on everything, not just the humax). £110 would sit a lot better.

For me I'm more interested in saving an electrical item going to landfill (I know it won't actually goto landfill due to the recent laws) than having a brand new machine. If I can get something thats already been used and save some small amount of the worlds resources then I will do. I prefer to get things for free (skips, items people no longer want, freecycle etc) but if I can't then my first choice will be a paid for 2nd hand item or a refurb unit. I'll only get something new if I cannot get it any other way (and if I REALLY need it).

The Humax is amazing unit, but there is something to be aware of if you are BT customer:

If you want a dual tuner PVR and are have BT Broadband, you can request a BT Vision PVR box for only just £30It is still amazing value for a DVR. BT will also increase you back up to 12months.

However , if you want the proven reliability, great software support and USB connectivity then the HUMAX is for you, if not get the BT Vision upgrade.

My parents have the Humax 8000 (the forerunner to the (9200) which has been amazing, in what seems to be a world of electronic products that often promise much but fail to deliver.

Fair enough.

The topuptv box does however give you the option of getting extra channels for £10 per month. I KNOW it costs more and amounts to £120 per year but at least the option is there.

because the topup box is c***p! Did you not read the thread? I had one and returned it: noisy, more noisy, and more noisy, plus many other problems.

I thought Topuptv had gone bust, as the channels were so bad, and not worth 50p/month, let alone £10.

Incorrect. It has series link now with the latest firmware available here: http://hummy.org.uk/home/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=13&Itemid=29

It will be January for most people when the update is broadcast over the air, as most people don't want to be messing around with computers and cables, and risking that it might all go wrong.

Series link is still available now, wether people choose to/are able to take advantage of it is a completely different matter.
