HUMAX PVR-9300T/500 Freeview+ Recorder - 500 GB £120.00 @ Asda instore

pmackerspmackers

This appears to be a good price for one of these. They have about 8 left in Asda Shore Rd Belfast.

The Humax PVR-9300T/500 ‘s dual recording system allows you to record one channel while watching another, or record two while watching a previously recorded programme. Picture In Picture (PIP) technology even allows you to view two programs on one screen! Watch what you want, at your leisure without having to wait for it to appear on catch up TV.

An integrated 500 GB HDD equals up to 300 hours of recording, delivering an abundance of space for all the soaps, films and shows you could ever ask for! Choose from the wide range of entertainment readily available on the Freeview+ service and pick shows to store with one touch record scheduling through an Electronic Programming Guide.

Yes, you can get far lower quality than this but with HD, if that's what your preference is.

I've owned one of these for a couple of years. Not without its problems especially in locations where you receive duplicate channels from an adjacent transmitter. In this case you MUST manually tune the preferred transmitter and make sure you don't have ANY duplicates showing at higher channel numbers. The Remote Control isn't great either, much too big.

Picture quality is average and the upscaling (to 720p) is no better than standard SD from a SCART.

I wouldn't buy another one of these today, the technology is now very old and better can be found elsewhere.

I have owned a Humax for about 6 years and they are the best [even Which best buy]
Obviously if you can afford the HD one - HDR Fox T2 - then go for that but usually double this price.

Humax aftersales is brilliant [email], a human being will reply if you are really having problems and they will replace if it goes wrong within the guarentee period. They also automatically update overnight and deleting unwanted channels is a doddle.

As to the remote, we all have too many. I bought the "One for All" OFA URC7557 for c.£15 and it handles my plasma TV; Blu ray; Humax Foxsat HDR; Humax PVR 9200T and surround sound. Just 4 batteries and you can easily teach it unusual buttons, they also have excellent aftersales.

PS I do not work for either company but am a regular complainer but kudos where it is due.

Bought one of these a few months back. Love it - I have a sony 923 HD telly and it upscales fine... obviously it is not a HD tuner (do remember there are about 5 HD channls) but I am happy with this... and for the price, it's worth it.

I have the 320GB version. Because there is no quality control or standard on freeview boxs (unlike SKY) the market is littered with rubbish receivers. My Humax is great . No double channels although i would guess that comes down to where you live and the strenght of the transmitter. I would try not using a wideband aerial to reduce the chances of that happening.
The picture quality is far better than a scart. No interference, clean sharp colours down the HDMI connection.
The only problem i have is with it wanting to record Neighbours twice a day although it is only set for once...... but thats the wifes issue X) .
The handcontrol is big but it is well made and works well. There is nothing more annoying than a rubbish handcontrol with poor range and dodgy buttons.

Might be a one-off or because we have an older model (although it's the same model number), but we've had lots of issues with our one of these. The most frustrating is its tendency to forget all programmed recordings at seemingly random times. Very frustrating if you've been away for a weekend or longer and find nothing recorded.

We've also had frequent freezes both during recording and playback, though these don't seem to happen so often nowadays.

Unless they've updated it in line with their more recent models, the interface is clunky and unintuitive too.

Must admit I wonder if we've had bad luck, as many people seem to rate these. However, I wouldn't buy Humax again.

How many HD channels are there?

Got one of these for my Dad a while back and I wanted to return it but he said dont bother. I wish I had. Its not much good and nowhere near as good as my Panasonic or my BT Vision box come to that. Doesnt pick up programmes in the guide properly. Menus are cheap and nasty. No USB either. Avoid!

I can see why you would be put off . Maybe have a look at Icecrypt next time ?. Never owned one but they are mean't to be good ;)

Lack of HD support does not only mean no HD channel content but the EPG (Electronic Program Guide) is in SD also.
Humax = Excellent build quality (on my HD-FOX T2 at least) I've gone thorough so many failed cheap oem Sky boxes but the Humax is going strong

The wide range of views confirms that Humax produce PVR's with problems. If you don't encounter the problems then they are fine BUT their are lots of potential pitfalls with these and if you do have a problem due the the limitations of the model then you will really dislike it. If you buy one never set it to auto-update if you have had to manually tune the channels as all your hardwork will be lost the next time Humax force an update.

I have the 9300 plus a Topfield 5800 and a Sky HD+ box. I rate these (i) Sky HD+ (ii) Topfield (iii) Humax. The Sky wins simply because of the superb 50+ HD channels. The Topfield wins for SD recordings because it has a brilliant interface which makes the Humax look what it is - old and tired.
