Great price, I actually just did the same thing earlier today. Also I have heard that you don't have to go through the Egg website to get the 10% cashback, so you can instead go through Quidco and get an extra 3% on top. I've tried this so hopefully it'll work and I'll have got it for a shade over £150. The Quidco has certainly tracked.

Top bargain - heat added (I can't really say otherwise as I've bought it myself can I!)

Fantastic value - voted hot !

I just bought a Sharp TU-160H from Costco with a 3 year warranty, seems to be a good unit. £160. I think the innards are the same as the Goodmans/Aldi/Lidl boxes but the interface is much better, I am quite impressed.

Costco will refund you for faulty goods as long as you are a member too, take it back in 5 years for a refund ;-)

I've mentioned a few times on HUKD that I've got the double cashback from egg and quidco on every item I have bought via dixons. I actually added in a vacuum cleaner to take the price over the £250 to get the £10 discount.

Do actually need a vacuum in case your wondering :)

I've had mine for 18 months or so now. it's a great all round box. Not as fancy as the Toppies, but very useful.

I rarely watch live TV because of it.

I managed to get mine for a similar price from Currys, last one in store, supposed to be demonstartion model but still in sealed box when I bought it.

Tempted to buy a second one for other lounge.

I can only agree with these comments, we've had the Humax for 18 months too and I can honstly say that if it blew up today I would go out the same day and buy another even without any offers!!!!!!! (And that's a lot comming from me!)

Best thing we have bought for years!

Hmmn... nearly ordered the 250Gb Toppy the other day, but dithered (couldn't decide which colour!). Now I'm thinking about the Humax instead

Can't decide... :?

My sister claims that every time she turns on her Humax, it takes a few minutes to download the EPG. THat sounds weird to me, but she demonstrated it. My Digifusion stores the EPG so it's available immediately it's switched on.

Just to add to the reviews - I've had mine for about 2 months and it's been one of the best electronics I've bought! Highly recommended

Been using the 8000 model for 18 months and it's been fantastic. Would be out to buy the 9200 if it stopped working.

A great box, my DVD recorder was short lived (and now in the loft).
It is available for £161 from Richer Sounds (£10 price-beater).
Oh, and the EPG taking a while to load - going to be fixed soon. It's not currently saved to the Humax on power-off. Will go on the hard disc with the next software update (I'm told). The box keeps improving with every update.

If it blew up today you should be able to take it back and get another one for nowt as the Humax comes with a 2 year warranty!!:-D

I've had mine a month and love it to bits - I just never turn it off so the program guide loading speed isn't an issue!:) Highly recommended!

Yeah this is the only let down of the box, if you leave it on all the time its fine and updated but switch it off and on again and it has to re-download the EPG which could be a few minutes of waiting around!

Hope it is on the next update.

I've had mine for over a year and a great box although sometimes misses the end off recordings, even though the program was on time etc!

Daft question but you do know you can extend the recording time to solve this problem, it's in the menu choices!

Sorry if I'm telling you how to suck eggs :w00t:

It's the dogs! Get one... :-)

I have one, my mum and sister saw it and both bought one each soon after - its excellent. Got them for £165 each from Currys with a discount code last year.

Are you able to link series with this?

For example if I recorded the first Life on Mars would I be able to tell it to record the reset of the series?

Out of interest, how do you update it - are the updates broadcast over the air, or is it a case of downloading and connecting to a PC?
Thanks.

Yeah done this, I think the maximum is 5 minutes (or 15?) & it usually starts a few minutes before that too (and ends), but we've still had a few programmes that have the end missing off!

My System Updates don't install automatically either, but then we don't have it on all the time (but it's on Standby all the time), I have tried forcing to check for updates etc but still doesn't work, so I got a Null Modem cable and do the updates from my PC.

I originally had Sky+ but this was even worse so at least this Freeview box is more reliable than my old 2 Sky+ boxes (1 replaced the other after a failure!)

Crystal customer service at Costco is A1, DSG customer service is rather worse IMHO.

Yes, over the air.

You can also do it manually if you so wish, as the updates are only broadcast for a set amount of time

Nope

Its difficult with series link, the Topfields Taps addons use keyword search of the EPG to achieve a similar function to Sky+, but as the Freeview people dont transmit the data its unlikely to be added soon. They were talking about broadcasting the data, in which case a future update might include it.

One thing that the Humax beats Sky+ on is the commercial skip feature - I dont think ive seen an advert in weeks!! You just press a button to skip forward a minute, do it four times when the ads come on, and youre at the next part of the programme! I think if Sky included this (or Virgin) their advertisers would be really annoyed, so I cant see them adding it anytime soon!

I love that feature, I will purposely delay watching a live program by 15mins or so (go and make a lesuirly cup of tea / coffee) and then skip the adverts and still finish the program at the live time!!!! :w00t: :giggle:

Watch out though with future updates, I can see advertisers offering Humax a lot of money to cut the feature in upcoming software updates, Ive actually kept a version of the latest software so I can flash it back if they ever do take it out. I did read somewhere that advertisers were getting really stroppy about it!

Not at the moment, but Humax have said they will be conforming to the Freeview "Playback" specification when it's up and running, which does include a "series link" option - amongst other updates... Currently the best you can do is set a repeat weekly timer from the EPG, or do a keyword search through the EPG (very handy) and set recordings from there.

Yep, the shedule has a "Weekly" "Weekday" "Daily" and "Once Only" options, not quite series link, but still good.

I suppose that's a start. I just need to write to the BBC and tell them to put match of the day on every saturday instead of 10:15 or 10:25 or 10:20 etc.

Incidentally, I have a Toshiba 32WLT66 which has built in freeview receiver. We couldn't get any bbc channels because reception is not that good around near me. However, I've just borrowed my friends Sony BTX D800 external box to test and it works perfectly. No loss of sound or anything.

Hopefully the tuner is as sensitive in the Humax as the reception problems have been the only thing stopping me get one yet.

THis box is probably the best piece of kit I have EVER bought!

MOTD is the only programme that causes a problem for me - i wish theyd show it at the same time each week!

Also, the Humax has a boost type function called "Antenna Power" for the arial (ive not used it) this might improve your reception? Shame you cant try it out before buying!
