Yes, all 4 freesat models are back in stock as of Friday 22 Feb. I got my 1010s delivered on Monday. It is an absolute dream. It is to upgrade from my Humax foxsat, the first ever freesat recorder made and I have been immensely happy with it, but this 1010s is streets ahead and hopefully will keep me happy for another good few years too.

Can you record a whole series at the touch of a button like Virgin's Tevo can, or do you have to record each episode individually every week ?

Yes, it will series link all episodes and record them all.

Yes I know, I was trying to explain that once your sky subscription is up it drops to very basic channels, you don't even get all the freeview channels and you are also unable to use pause and record functions without paying a monthly fee, just to use pause and record.
Ah, I understand and agree. Thanks. I also think it's unfair that you lose all the recordings you made while you were paying subs

In a word Humax S*** will never buy any of their products ever again fault occurred on mine just after 2 years after a re-tune same happened to my sisters both new products and CS wanted to me to pay over £100 to have it repaired and didn't want to compensate me in anyway what so ever, £160 for 2 years service unit looks like it just came out of the box Humax never again rubbish product rubbish company!

Must admit, the service we've received from Humax has been excellent. We bought a refurb from them not long ago and it was indistinguishable from new.

Be careful with Humax refurb. If it goes faulty outside a year, the customer services team won't help even though they should. They will try and sell you another one instead. My complaint is ongoing. Spend the extra, buy new and avoid the hassle. For a bit more you can pick up a new one from Argos.

"for a bit more" as in 1/3 of the price more?

Got one 2 days ago, delivered today. After 3-4 hours of testing decided to return it. Decoding quality of non hd channels is really bad, worse than my Goodmans. Menu guide navigation is also slower, not happy overall. I don't think I will trust Humax products anymore after this. I have had great expectation from the product, now disappointed.

Surprised at that, as most reviews are excellent. Perhaps a dud?

I saw a mention of firmware,
I'm beta testing the new firmware that includes netflix on my 1010

When will this firmware be available to the public? This is the first mention I've seen of netflix on these boxes.

I was planning on getting an ariel instaled and going down the youview route for th sake of not having to get a seperate box for netflix but if this is getting netflix it'll save me having to shell out for an ariel.

For reference: my PC with 3 tuners, 32Gb RAM, fast drives and a 3.3Ghz hex core started to struggle above 10 simultaneous SD recordings, started dropping channels at 14. They're doing pretty good getting 4 out of low end hardware. Especially if they're HD streams.
What PVR software (I'm hoping Windows) do you use please?
Windows is not really very good at being a PVR I'm afraid Linux is king when it comes to PVR setups.

After many years and setups I find it much better than Linux due to better support for TBS drivers. ArgusTV/Win10 is rock solid. I find Windows as a front end more problematic as Kodi cannot maintain focus so here Linux based OSes are better IMHO. I run FireTV/Kodi and OpeneElec boxes with a 4 tuner TBS DVB-T2 card on the backend.

Also fire tv kodi and openelec are both Linux based.
OrribleHarry
Can't comment on Argus TV as I haven't used it but a headless Linux server that does everything, file server, Dlna, PVR, cloud backup etc. Is what I use and it has been faultless.

I also use kodi clients for true multiroom that can all access shared recordings, live tv etc independently. I tested recording four channels whilst playing 4 movies and it didn't fall over.

I have a refurbed 1000s and it's been going strong for a while now.

Good points: Excellent pic quality on HD channels, pretty quiet, no subs required, catchup nicely integrated into EPG, will play video content via USB/DLNA, Showcase (TV picks from Freesat) can be handy to skim through weekly to pick up stuff to record, YouTube/BBC Sport+News apps a nice bonus, handy Search facility that picks up progs from the third input char onwards.

Bad points: Pointlessly clicky buttons on remote, can't re-order channels (can delete them though which is what I do), adds new channels without prompting you first, UI is clunky (too many menu levels in places and criminal lack of coloured button shortcuts), front panel LED often has massively distracting scrolling text (insulation tape fixed that for me!), a couple of apps have pay-per-view content which totally goes against the name Freesat in my books.

It's not a perfect box (and some buggy firmware updates haven't helped, though the latest update finally seems OK), but on balance, well worth the purchase, especially if you're ex-Sky.

From what I understand freeview is for from an aerial and freesat if signal off a satellite dish. Don't know if any do both. Been looking at the DTR models myself, sound better than the HDR? Can't remember what the difference is though, there's even a dtr-t6000 for hi-res recording of sport.
speculatrix
I have the 1TB wifi-less model. It's a great bit of kit. You can connect it to your internet router/firewall, and there's a FreeSat app for Android which in theory allows you to set the timer on the set top box; in practise I find it doesn't work reliably.

I've gotten into the habit of turning my humax off before I switch inputs: As soon as my TV indicates no signal from the Humax I switch input. As long as I do that it doesn't lose sound when I switch back.

Yes, it's a problem with the HDMI handshake. I can see you've figured out the steps to avoid it alright (I've described them above too)
srandom
I have a bug where any time I switch inputs on the tv, when I switch back to the humax the sound is gone and I have to restart.

I've decided to keep the box because I like Humax and I suspect a replacement will do the same with my TV - I've had a problem with my (LG) TV before where sometimes if you switch inputs, the colour goes pink and you have to switch channel again to get it back.

So I suspect Humax has problems with some TVs that aren't handling HDMI very well, but I don't think that's a good excuse - They should be making allowances for crappy TVs and my cheaper boxes and games console never had a problem.

if when doing a factory reset to try and cure sound fault bug will i loose all my recorded programs on the hard drive ???
I don't think so, but I'm not certain. However, I don't think that will solve your problem anyway. It's simply a case of turning on your TV before your box, in my experience this will ensure you've always got sound (ie. making sure the box is off before you turn your TV on). If you do lose the sound, power the box down and unplug from the mains briefly (leaving the TV on).

Arggh!

I received mine this morning and was really, really pleased with it.

But then some of the menus started acting funny.
The Main menu highlighting stopped appearing so you didn't know what was being selected (Could have lived with that because you can see what's being selected by the icon on the left).

Then when tried to create my first folder, same thing but also the buttons wouldn't work and can't type in a name.

Have emailed them. Hope it's a known issue that's been patched.

Just wondering if it's one of those situations where they've had a return because of this, but rather than refurbishing they've just decided it looks alight, reset it and sent it straight back out.
...Actually it's working okay now.
You'd think that factory reseting the box was the biggest step you could take, but actually just turning it off and on again seems to have resolved all issues

I bought one of these from Humax and it was faulty as delivered when swopped for a Sky box in a working system, The replacement failed after 3 months. Humax were less than helpful. I eventually received a refund but don't take all the praise Humax receive as gospel. They are far from a perfect company and the large number of refurbs they offer must say something about the product quality.

Wouldnt powerline be better than wifi?

Yes, powerline would generally be better, however they don't work well in my flat (ancient wiring I think) and I have a humax HDR fox freeview recorder and use an edimax dongle with it and it's fine, never had any issues with it, and it cost less than a tenner. Not sure if you were commenting about the OP's post or mine, I only mentioned the dongle so that the OP was aware that I did realise the difference between the 2 boxes I talked about.

Just in general to wifi, always prefer wired myself, but if wired isnt an option then wifi it is.

Normally this price for Grade A, Price you've quoted is for brand new with 2 yrs warranty. The refurbs only come with 1 yr. Personally I'd wait for them to have more 500GB ones at £129. (requires a dongle for wifi though)

I'm sorry but you're wrong. They are normally this price for the 1000s model. This is the updated version: 1010S.

They normally retail for £240. The 1000s is cheaper.

Yes they retail for £240 for a brand new product with 2 years warranty, this is not a brand new product but a refurb (Grade A) and has a 1 year warranty. This is humax direct's standard price for this product as a refurb (which is what I said in my first post).

I assume the catch up requires an ethernet cable to be attached? How much is the wifi dongle and where is the best place to get it?

EW-7711UTn - Mini-size with built in antenna (Amazon Rating 4/5 - 159 votes)

After lots of research I found Edimax have the same wifi chip as the Humax Wifi dongle. A search on eBay can get you a genuine Humax dongle for £8.90. But I bought the Edimax mini size with high gain antenna for £10.95 which will get you a better signal. It's smaller than I expected so great for behind a box with it much clearance.

Try any of these, all tested and work on the HDR-1000s.

BTW THE "-G" on the model name is just "graded" ie not a separate/distinct model, just a descriptive addition by Humax Direct.

Does anyone know if this is compatable with the freesat app on the play store, there doesn't seem to be any info on the link so I assume not but just want to make sure

How responsive are the menus? At the moment I have a Humax Youview box and the menus are so sluggish I can't use it.

Does it show the channel currently being viewed in the corner while looking at the guide?
Try one of the new BT YouView boxes - much faster UI and sell for around £90 on ebay - model number is DTR-2100.
Tempted, Checking on ebay there are loads of these starting at £75, there are loads that have been so called refurbished. That in itself is a reason for concern. Using a humax foxsat recorder at the moment but things have moved on.
I can't see any DTR-T2100 below £100 - maybe you are looking at a different model?
Sorry will check again

I have one of these and they are an excellent product.

The menus are basically instant on this, it was a welcome upgrade from the horrors of Sagemcom.

It has a few bugs with recording but nothing too major.

Ok I been looking at one of these for a while now after ditching sky in March but am reluctant as it depends on what the UI is like. One post on here says it's very laggy whilst another says it's great. So comparing to Sky's UI or the standard UI on your tv what is it like. Reason I ask is I bought a talktalk youview box in March to record tv when I ditched sky. Although the box is ok it is nowhere near as fast as my old sky box taking anything from 2 to 10 seconds to load the programme guide. I mentioned this to one of the tech guys in Tesco who had the BT Youview box (made by Humax) and he said his box was the same, slow and laggy and I have seen similar reports for the Humax DTR1000 being slow as well.

So before I part with £134.95+ to upgrade the youview box will I be wasting my money on a box that doesn't respond any quicker. The HDR1000S has freetime which I understand is similar to Youview offering catch up with all the major players. One thing I have noticed on the talktalk box is some programmes are not available on catch up yet when check on my laptop they are there and I can watch on the laptop but not on tv. So what's the point in advertising catch up tv when you can't, yet you can with pc or laptop.

Ok, from this very moment I am sat in front of the TV, and pressed the guide button, tv guide took between 1-2 seconds to come up showing a page of now and next on 7 channels, if I scroll to the next page of 7 channels it takes less than a second to update fully the now and next guide, pretty damn fast if you ask me, scrolling onwards backwards and forwards through the days timetable also takes less than a second to refresh, as does skipping forward each day.

I am, and always have been very impressed with the user interface of this box, have you looked at demonstrations on youtube? The interface has not really changed since this review, I would say with incremental updates it is slightly speedier than what is on show here though, and without the bugs shown in the review, along with more functionality now it has iPlayer, ITV Player 4oD and Demand 5, along with youtube.

Owned a Humax HDR-1000S since May 2013, in the past 14 months I think I have had to reset it 3-4 times, compare that to a lot of STBs and associated problems you will find in there reviews, it is a very good and reliable box.

Git a BT Youview Box......regular s/w updates that cripple the box, fails to record consecutive internet channels, needs a reboot every 3 days or it freezes, takes 1 min to be ready from sleep mode, slow responses throughout. Never again

So, just to be clear. Your negative review above is for a completely different box? :|

Hope it's not as bad as the YouView boxes. Dire !

Mine isn't - best PVR format yet. My Virgin Tivo just gathers dust except for the Sky Sport channels which I have to use it for.
