Eek - was primarily planning to go with the missus so we could make it an outing with the baby and get Japanese food from less westernised sources.

Edit: Found a review that seems to put my fears at rest - http://www.ukanifest.co.uk/news/2013/7/27/review-hyper-japan-saturday-27th-july-2013

Seems that there were two markedly different expectations though since you thought there wasn't enough food stands while the reviewer felt spoiled for choice! 8)

Just reading some of the reviews on here, I am surprised by how anyone could have such different reactions. As I mentioned before, me and the girlfriend talked with a fair few people there, and they all stated they thought it was really poor.

She went to the one the year before and said it was dramatically different, and much better experience, so there's always a chance this years could be better I guess.
Personally I was just very disappointed, it felt so halfarsed. After a few hours we were both hungry and looking at the different stalls, but the things on offer were limited and had huge lines, and the prices - as expected- weren't cheap. In the end we just went to one of the food shops in the building, so maybe that reviewer is including the non asian food shops in the building. He evens says there were lines everywhere for food, but they turned out to only serve beer.. so I'm not sure I understand his point there. It's possible my expectations were higher than his, the office I work has lots of food stalls around it, so have more choice available to me there.

One thing I notice with the reviews of HyperJapan, is the few number of photos taken. I too had a camera, but found so little there to actually take a photo of, that I didn't bother much. The fact that the reviewers took so few too, would indicate the same.

The reviewer says he missed the martial arts demonstrations, so I'm not sure why hes so excited about it, if he'd seen it it's likely he'd have felt as disappointed as I. He mentioned a Robotics Innovation demonstration, but I saw no such thing.

Anyway, at the end of the day the tickets are £8.75 each, so if you have nothing better to do, you can go along and leave if you're bored. If we didn't have to wait outside for so long in the rain, we probably would've just wandered in, looked around and left, without being so disappointed.

I went last year with my girlfriend, and it was awful. We had to queue for a good hour+ in the rain, even though we pre booked. The attractions inside were just poor. There was so few stalls/attractions that most of the building was just empty. The gaming area was tiny, there was a couple of cars that you weren't allowed to touch, a surprisingly low amount of cosplay, a rather dull Karate event, which was akin to the kind of thing school fates show 5 year old kids, and a dozen merchandise stands with uninspired and overpriced.

The rest was just travel agents, and Lyca mobile stalls, and an extremely limited range of food and Sake stalls. (The Sake one required about £20 just to sip a few different Sake).

Honestly it was very disappointing, we were ready to leave after about 30 mins. We stuck around a few hours but we wish we didn't. Everyone we spoke to there said it was awful.

Didn't seem too out of place to me ;) That persona is pretty typical of Japanese characters on telly. In real life, they're much more reserved though (except in a karaoke place).

You sometimes get freaks like that, but that doesn't represent the other anime fans at all
