The new Firestorm range of Hard Drives has been redesigned to offer you a more sophisticated and standardised range of external storage.

Stylish brushed aluminium outers enclose high speeds and capacities (40GB - 160GB) suitable for almost any purpose. Use Firestorm hard drives to increase your file storage capacity; as a file transfer system; as a shared storage drive; or as a cache to store a specific set of data.

The aluminium case is attractive, lightweight but strong, with good heat dissipation. This drive also comes with an elegant zipped wallet (with extra pockets for cables etc) for protection when in transit

The 2.5" Notebook Firestorm unit is supplied with Syncback synchronisation and backup software, and Truecrypt 256bit AES encryption software.

Firestorm units can also be preconfigured to work with the Becrypt range of port control and encryption products, for a more secure application. Bought in single units or as part of a range, the new Hypertec Firestorm units look good and perform well in every home and office environment

Didn't realise how small it was until I saw the pair of glasses next to it!:)

Great deal - not sure why, as I pressed the 'Hot' button, it went below zero?? :?

Wondering who makes the physical disk - anyone?

Not rating until I know what's inside :p

I've just received mine, nifty peice of kit, you can actually feel the quality of the case! I believe Hypertec have a direct agreement with Fujitsu for the drives. So no worries there then!

please note hypertec have confirmed the below "FYI the Notebook drives are Fujitsu, We have a direct agreement with Fujitsu, so will use them as standard.
" i work for IT247 and this came direct from hypertec , hope this helps

Why don't they put this in the specs? It'd satisfy the curiosity of people like me and, in my opinion, having a good brand of HD in the unit is something to boast about.

They probably just want to sell it as their own but who's ever heard of Hypertec? I guess the masses don't think about the importance of what's inside.

please note i have added to the specifications tab on this product : drive - fujitsu . As hypertec have advised this to me . I work for IT247 , thanks

Does anybody have good/bad experience using 2.5" portable drives?

I've been looking at the Western Digital Passport 120gb for £50 on Ebuyer or Maxtor One Touch Mini 160gb on Pixmania for about £65.

Help !!! Any recommendations? This deal looks tempting !!

There's a WD 12GB Drive at Amazon for £49.99 better looking but maybe no 3year warranty.
#14
I use a 2.5" drive in my main PCs - I'm a PC silencing addict and laptop drives run quieter, cooler and consume less power than desktop drives. Often they're built to cope with greater heat too, being inside an enclosed laptop case, but it's not best to have them running 24/7 - shouldn't have to with an external drive anyway.

If you desire a more compact external storage device than a 3.5" drive there's no reason not to go for a 2.5" drive.

Tried to register as a new customer as nothing would add to the basket and the site is falling apart.

Yep that's out of order. Still shows at £54.48 if I add to my basket though, sounds very selective.

wouldn't buy it off them on principle now :pirate:

I'm going for the Western Digital from Amazon for £49.99, it looks the part as well, 20gb more and has stayed the same price for more than 12hrs :-D

I honestly consider that the better unit and at that price it's no contest. Pretty sure WD do do a 3-year warranty on their external drives, too.

arrived this morning.
despite the free delivery it was still sent next day b4 1030am.

seems to work well, but is a bit bigger than i imagined it would be. but still small enough to slip in the laptop bag and carry around.

nice peace of mind to have all your photos etc safely backed up.
#27
actually i just realised, its not the same as pictured in the second post. its not nicely rounded, its quite square and sharp edges.
shame as the pictured one does look nicer.
