Not a ripoff or anything but this is the absolute maximum I'd ever expect to pay for 2x4GB. If you've decided to build/upgrade right now then go ahead, but there'll likely be something better out there soon (if there isn't already, not looked!)

it is quite pretty though

if you can wait a while this is worth a punt:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-BLT2CP4G3D1337DT1TX0CEU-Ballistix-Tactical-Memory/dp/B005Y8C8BW/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1420425281&sr=1-3&keywords=8gb+ram

no indication when/if they'll be back in stock but you can order and hope

Not a bad price for the HyperX ram, but I think that ram prices are up and down at the moment, so it may be cheaper at some point.

If and when Amazon get the Ballistix back in, hope it's the same price or less, but some company's have a habit of a price increase on new stock

For gaming, higher speed memory makes little to no difference, 1600 would be fine. Plenty of good quality 2x 4GB RAM packs around £60, pick one that goes with your build (low profile if using big CPU cooler) and invest any money you would have spent on faster RAM, on a more powerful graphics card. No point buying 16GB 2400 RAM and then pairing it with a 750ti

Unless your using an APU then ram speeds have a direct effect on the performance of the on board GPU.
