Basically this is very thin microchip which goes underneath your original SIM card and slides into SIM card place in the mobile phone. This fools phone into believing that it uses locked network card and you can use it as a normal phone.
The only downside is that you need to cut top of SIM card to allow microchip to fit but it is quite simple and does not damage SIM card memory.
I have tried it on my SE W880i locked onto Orange and it worked with 3 SIM card.
For $3.93 it is much cheaper alternative to unlocking and it does not affect phone warranty if it is new. And if you buy another phone you need just transfer it.
There are quite a few of these in Dealextreme (for iPhones as well) so might give a try.
Quote from Dealextreme:
Designed to unlock operator locked Nokia phones
Simply slide the attachment under your normal SIM card
Ultra-thin film-like design minimizes and sometimes avoids the need to cut and trim SIM cards
Manufacturer claims that this also works on some models of the following phones:
Alcatel
BlackBerry
Foma
Huawei
iPhone
LG
Lobster
MDA
MODEM
Motorola
Nokia
Panasonic
Sagem
Samsung
Sharp
Siemens
SonyEricsson
SPV
Toshiba
Vodafone
ZTE
DOCOMO
SOFTBANK

works really good

I have bought about 5 of these and it has worked in every phone I tried it in including two BlackBerrys. Did have a couple of issues when roaming though, two devices would not connect while using this item, put the sim card in an unlocked phone and they were fine some you may find some issues with it. I paid over £4 for them as well, at this price there is no cheaper unlock...

or the HTC Touch HD?

thanks, if anyone knows, such as previous purchasers, as product info is a bit vague.

do it work on barred phones:?

do it work on barred phones:?

No.

Oh and be careful when you order one as with some phones the sim slot isnt thick enough to take a sim and this device piggy backed.

Oh and lastly you have to cut a notch out of your sim card.
#12
This does work, but the chip on the side is pretty big, which means it won't work for phones which have slot loading sims.
#13
will this work on Nokia E71 (locked to T-mobile)?

What he said.

These don't work with the Nokia N95 running firmware version 31 as Nokia blocked them via the firmware.

These have been this sort of price for a looooong time now too.
#16
I like this just because it beats the system!

ANARCHY IN THE UK (if that's alright with everybody)

a question: does this have to be permanently attached to the SIM you are using it with? or is it just wedged in a gap, and so can be left in the phone for use with various different SIMs?

i drift between phones and SIMs on a fairly regular basis, so if i could just buy one of these and use it with whatever combination of SIM and phone i'm currently using, i might just give it a try.

The idea is that your insert this along side your sim and you need to leave it in. If you remove it the phone will revert to be locked.

thanks, i realise this. what i really wanted to know is if it could be used for a while, then removed, and then used with another SIM in another phone. obviously only one SIM/phone would be unlocked at a time. but can it (easily) be swapped around like this, or would it have to be glued or attached to the first SIM with which it is used?
#21
To answer Ferris... you can swap and change SIMs, the unlock card is not permanently attached, it is basically just wedged under the SIM card.

To address simate's post... my old Nokia N95-1 is running firmware 31.0.017 (not sure when this particular update was released) and the unlock card works just fine in it, just tested to be sure. Without the card the phone is locked to Orange and nothing else will work but with the card I have got it working on Tesco and O2 (the only other SIMs I have basically).

Be aware however that as previously posted it will not work with phones that have a slide in SIM holder (such as the Nokia N97) as the SIM and unlock card together are just too thick to be forced into the slot without the possibility of damage.
#22
It fitted my SE W880i although it has slide in SIM card slot. It is very thin however if you want even thinner ones there are more alternatives available at dealextreme. I have done this post to let people know that there are other alternatives to unlocking.

Hot deal, will this work with a Sony Eriksson K800/K850i?

I am pretty sure that this will work with them. Have a look at customer reviews at dealextreme web page for this product.

If you have an n95 just properly unlock it and change the firmware!

You MIGHT, you might not.
Either way it is only the plastic, not near the chip in the card at all, and it will still work fine in any other phone too.

Despite what google thinks, my experience says this not a good way to unlock your iphone.

I live near to a mobile phone shop and we tried many different sim intercept brands.

The results varied - and didn't sustain (i.e one moment working, the next not).

There is a lot of fannying around too (respringing when signal lost etc).

Pwn it and get it over with.

And vtd cold btw: turbo sim, rebtel etc all cheaper on eBay

it can danage your phone sim card reader...

dcx_badass
Except a free unlock that exists for most Sony Ericssons.

any links for this? at the moment i only want this device for use with a SE w810i, so if there is a free unlock for this particular model i'll gladly use that instead.

So can a nuclear explosion

Now, stop posting pointless comments - everyone realises that :

- this goes between the sim card and its holder
- it may not work in slot based holders
- you may have to trim some plastic off the sim card (i.e. not the chippy bit)

Naturally, if you try to insert this using a mallet, your sim holder may become damaged. But most of us are quite careful :)

I always check hotukdeals but have never signed up. I signed up just now to tell you THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH iPHONE! (well not iphone 3G/3Gs anyway). I actually purchased one of these a while ago and it worked for my Nokia 6500 classic locked to Orange with a T-Mobile SIM Card. That has a slot but very difficult to fit as the smart sim plastic/film is very flimsy. The flimsyness (is that a word) is the reason I nearly broke my iPhone, it got wedged in the phone and I broke my SIM tray trying to get it out, various tweezers and safety pins later and I got it out but what a nightmare. I can confirm it works in a Blackberry 8110 but not on a W910i (both locked to Orange). I think it's a bit hit and miss really.

p.s. sorry for the essay!

I dunno, haven't tried it on iPhone, but if you want to unlock your iPhone, just jailbreak your phone and install ultrasn0w.
