I Spit On Your Grave £2.96 Delivered

This caused a bit of a stir... Not for the feint hearted!
I Spit on Your Grave, writer-director Meir Zarchi's controversial story of rape and revenge, has lost none of its ability to shock viewers since it first gained notoriety in 1978. Camille Keaton (grand-niece of Buster Keaton and, later, Zarchi's wife) stars as a young woman who is terrorised and then brutally assaulted by four men while on vacation. After slowly pulling herself together, she methodically tracks down and butchers each of the perpetrators. Zarchi's film has been consistently accused of celebrating violence against women, and while the rape scenes are graphic, they also lack the voyeuristic qualities that earmark other similarly plotted exploitation films. If anything, Zarchi is guilty of awkward scripting; the dialogue is leaden, and Keaton's transformation from victim to avenger is too swift. But to label him a pornographer is wrong, and while the film is challenging--perhaps more than most audiences can bear--its depiction of the psychology of violence is undeniably powerful.

Nothing like a good slushy film to watch at the weekend!
#2
Who voted cold, this is a classic. Mary Whitehouse is probably spinning lol.
#3
This is one of the better "video nasties" . The acting will not win any oscars but it is not utter tosh like some of the 80's horror offerings.

I expect this is mild stuff compared with what I saw on Rome last night LOL

The production quality of this film is dire but that's what makes the numerous rape & murder scenes so graphic and real. You must see this film before you die.

Hot deal at that price.

Point to note, if your after the FULL UNCUT version of this film, you might want to pick up the USA region 1 version and DTS sound!
BBFC had to make some BIG cuts to get the 18 cert (no pun intended, if you ve seen the bath scene).

If this R2 DVD is the same 'Cut' As they have shown on TV then it's still very graphic indeed (especially the crotch cringing bath scene)
#22
I've never actually seen this film but I know enough about it to know that I probably shouldn't see it, besides which I've already watched both Hostel 1 and 2 for the first time over the last few days so I think I've had my fill of sick flicks for now.

Definitely is! my dad went on for years about how i had to watch this film, so i finally bought that Box of the Banned in the boxing day sales..and i was shocked. That bath scene is definitely cringing as you say! I thought i was gonna be sick! haha! Good movie tho! Good on the woman gettin her revenge! I hated those rape scenes too! That must be one of the most awful things to ever happen to anyone! eek! I love all these old "scary" films!
#24
Your Dad suggested this film to you ??
#25
I think i have the uncut version, my dad got it off the internet a while ago

,but im never watching this film again

You're all missing the point about this film - it was seminal piece of cinema that cast before the whole slasher / revenge genre. The film was shot on a very low budget and that is reflected in bringing home the realism of some of the more graphic scenes.

Put it this way; does anyone care that Drew Barrymore gets killed at the start of the Scream? – not me matey. "Why not?" I hear you ask and I would reply that Hollywood gradually lost the purity that ‘I spit on your grave’ brought to this new genre in the early 70’s.

That’s why it was banned and that’s why you should stop looking down your nose at this film and watch it. It’s ok, you can have your opinions when you’re an adult.
#27
PMSL. Theres just too much gloss in todays films. Comparing this to the likes of Hostel/Saw theres not a lot more violence etc but there SEEMS to be more due to the low budget. Ban the Emu, get those heads out of the sand people ;-)

I dont know about most people, but i hate the thought of rape. I dont like thinking about it,i dont like seeing it(even if its fake),i wouldnt wish it on anyone, even someone who i hate. Its awful.
IMO thats one of the worst things you can do to someone.
IMO raping someone is worse then killing someone.
#29
It's true, I also hate the thought of torture and rape and I don't think they have any place in an entertainment medium, there's also that French film which features a very graphic rape scene and I think there was one in Straw dogs too.

Cinema is like that though, if you watch a film like this then you know what to expect.

I thought it was a horror film from the title (it was just a different kind of horror film).Actually i thought it was maybe a zombie film.

I watched the Hills have eyes, and as soon as the person was raping the girl,i turned it off.

thanks,i dont have that. i currently have 16 zombie films, (includes rubbish like children of the dead)

It's good, a zombie fights a shark in it for some reason.

That's the wonderful thing about cinema - it makes us debate whilst staying in the safety of the theatre.
