Just stumbled upon this offer directly from IBM. There is also another offer for free memory with System-X.

Buy a BladeCenter E or a BladeCenter H and a Minimum of 4 Blades or a BladeCenter S with a minimum of 3 blades (minimum configuration applies) before June 30th 2009 and IBM will provide the chassis for £1. Not only that, but opt for a redundant pair of Bladecenter S's unique shared storage controllers, or two Nortel switches, and get one free of charge!

For more details on the IBM BladeCenter portfolio visit Blade Center

Or contact IBM on 0870 010 2516 (09:00 to 17:00 Mon - Fri) or email us to be put in touch with your local reseller.

This is not a consumer product! These blades for for business running big IT data centres.

I think the price is probably a bit out too. Last time I priced IBM Blades they were about £1800-£2000 each and you need to buy 3 or 4 of those to get the chassis for free here

Well perhaps not necessarily big IT datacentres, but these would normally be expected to be purchased commercially. However, I do know hobbyists that run stuff like this, and people who run them for self training purposes (but usually used and surplus ones).

At that price I would buy it and run VMware ESX

It’s isn’t two blades for the price of one but two switches or SAS controllers for the price of one. Misleading title.

“2 for price of 1 (Terms and conditions apply) on either the Nortel switch (32R1860) , or the new SAS RAID controller (43W3584)”

ESX is fine, but expensive! I would opt for XenServer, it does much of what ESX does out of the box and is completely free.
