It's a while since this sort of second-hand old crap has been posted.

Thought it wouldn 't last :-(

My work laptop is the Lenovo ThinkPad - the worst laptop I have had by a long way. Nowhere near the quality of others like the old Dells we had beforehand.

It is only a 14" screen too. It is a cheap price which is in its favour but overall I think for this money I would go for a new or re-furb Netbook instead.

You are out of your MIND, I work in IT and we have recently swapped from IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads to Dells, the Dells are the worst kind of plasticy cheapo clone ***** machines I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Give me a IBM/Lenovo ANYDAY!

Not out of his mind at all - he just has an opinion that differs to yours...!

I too work in IT and we get Thinkpads all the time, and I personally cant stand em.

Thank you MrShed - I can confirm that I am sane and that my opinion, to which I am fully entitled, is that my new Thinkpad is no where near the quality of my old Dell. This has been borne out by my colleagues too. I have no idea about new Dells, you (Jamzgub) do and have expressed your opinion to which you are entitled too.

People like new!

Sad state of affairs when people choose a new Fiat above a 2 year old golf german car.

I have used Thinkpads and Dells. These corporate laptops have different families at different price points for different qualities. Sometimes an error in commercial management instruction is made where a breakthrough or cost cut design change is made and then one or more troublesome components result in bad quality. Usually the bad quality batches are forced onto the internal employees as they are easier to service. The T60 is one such model, I am afraid! However after 3 years (the T60 is at least 3 years' old), Darwinism applies and this is a reasonable buy at £200 and the really bad ones would have died though you may be surprised that the T60 is bulked onto pallets for recycling at no more than £10-£20 per piece. How this finally maps to £200 is quite a feat! The T61 is a far superior build than the T60 but you would not find this model any where near £200!

Thinking of getting one of these for the mother-in-law. Just going to be doing basic surfing and family tree research so should be fine. I'm loath to pay twice this much for a new one.

I have a Thinkpad T60 bought maybe 3 years ago from work....
originallty had 512mb memory (upgraded it to 2.5gb) and even out the box it ran vista fine at the time.
These machines are absolutely rock solid and tough as old boots - have dropped it a couple of times and not even a mark on it despite denting my flooring!!

I now have a dell at work and there is nooooo comparison. The dells are flimsy and plasticky.
