Check out this thread from my previous X61 deal - there's wealth of information as kindly provided by ScottyBoy and Brookheather.

OP (or anyone else) do you know if there is a big difference between this and the X61s model? Reason I am asking is that I have an X61s and a friend wanted one just like mine and told me to keep a lookout for one for him. Any help, greatly appreciated.

Ordered, heat added

Shame only 1024x768 res :(

Very nice machine, they're well built and should last a reasonable amount of time.

Res is small, but so is the screen.

Brilliant price, if I didn't have a netbook already, I'd snap one of these up in a heartbeat

X61S uses a low-voltage processor as far as I remember, so gets longer battery life. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:X61s

I have had the older X60 (and the missus has a X60s). Good solid machines. Bear in mind the age though - it's around the time things start to go wrong. My screen started failing about six months after I bought it and the missus' wifi card is a bit flakey. Might just be unlucky though.

Worth checking if it comes with a new battery too.

A lot faster than a netbook - and a proper screen aspect ratio rather than widescreen. If you are a touch typist - you will be in hog heaven. The keyboards are lovely and fantastic for bashing out lots of words.

Cant agree more about the keyboards - I have the X60s and the keys are a dream.

No track pad - but the famous Thinkpad nipple. Some like it, some hate it.

Wow, am I really showing my age here by being shocked at a 3YO using the internet?

Assuming this will be connected to the information superhighway of course... :{

Could any one please confirm this notebook has got CD/DVD RW/ROM?

If they are the same form factor (and they look that way) as the X60/X60s - nope. These were known as ultraportables - a precursor to the netbook. You can plug a USB one in though.

Lenovo / IBM - proper computers for grown ups
- been using a T23 for donkeys years and still holding out - would be perfectly happy with XP-Pro as you can remote connect to it 'right out the box' - not looking for a new laptop right now, but well worth knowing about

Afraid not - you should be able to find an external CDRW for about £20 though I would have thought.

Dont forget also that these units take DDR2 SODIMMs so will be costlier than DDR3.

Oh and they appear to have added more stock too...

Been using one of these as my work laptop for 3 years. It's the best laptop I've ever had and I have shunned many offers to exchange it. The keyboard is fantastic, performance is great considering its age, flies with 4gb. Only downside I would mention is the screen resolution/shape is not the best for media.

If they made one of these with a widecreeen and HDMI I'd buy it
#34
Thanks OP
My Acer One is showing its age - so this should be a step up
