Good price for a great cupboard filler. We must have used ours a good 3 times in the 5 years we've had it
Just buy it, use it , then pop it at the back of the cupboard along with the fondue set and the bread maker.

On sale from Thursday 29th May.

We have a Lidl one. It works really well but the bowl takes up so much room in the freezer that we never keep it in there. So you need to plan 24 hours in advance to make the ice cream, shift the contents of your freezer, plonk the bowl in there.

It really is a lot of effort.

Pff Intel are tremendously greedy aren't they? Ivy should be much cheaper than this by now, but nope, gotta keep up that almost-monopoly.

That space is already taken by the juice maker. ;)

Couldn't you do the same by chucking the ingredients in a tupperware tub and then sticking it in the freezer?

You're juice maker is taking up the space that should contain an Ivy Bridge processor oO

Freezer space wise, we have a Gaggia Gelatiera which gets around the freezer space issue, it's an awesome bit of kit and makes incredible ice cream, though cost wise, you could probably buy a couple of Aldi makers and a dedicated freezer for ice cream instead ;)

How strong is the motor though, Ice Cream does obviously get pretty thick as it freezes, and if it's not churning properly, surely it'll start to clump or something?

No, if you put cream, or yoghurt (for frozen yoghurt) etc in the freezer you'll get a block of frozen cream.
You need to churn it to stop it freezing up completely I reckon.

In theory, you can make ice cream with a tub and the ingredients, but you have to keep tasking it out of the freezer, stirring it lots, putting it in to freeze a bit more, take it out, stir... you get the idea..

I followed this recipe without a machine: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/vanillaicecream_4616 and it was lovely - it's only cream, egg yolk, vanilla and sugar.
