This Freeview receiver comes with an RF modulator so if you have an old TV that doesn't have SCART inputs then this is a great price for a Freeview receiver.

I think it's rather short sighted to buy a Freeview
receiver without HD. If you must buy this, then it's
a good price.

I posted this last week, recieved mine and very easy setup and great quality.

Thanks for this post OP, heat added. I have a Matsui 19" CRT which does not have any scart connections so this little beauty should do the job nicely. My wife purchased this TV before she met me over 24 years ago, a superb picture and it's still going strong after all these years! It will be a nice change to have a choice of more than just the standard 5 channels.

I was just about to type "how old would the TV have to be to not have scart" but guess I just found out from the post above!

I can't see my LCD lasting 24yrs... they don't build them like the used to!
#7
Make sure it supports 8k mode or its about as useful as a door stopper!

I've googled several reviews and there's nothing to suggest it doesn't.

The major complaints are that it's looks a bit flimsy and that the teletext function is slow and using telext a lot causes reboots.

I bought one of these but it`s going back as it`s faulty.

I'm pretty certain most freeview boxes come with an RF out (maybe apart from those miniature ones that hang off the back of a scart fitting) It's a pretty standard feature
#11
great little price for a box, but if you want just a freeview box, you can get some for £5/10 easy. I'd step up to a Freeview HD box if you can.

Most have an RF loop-through but not a modulated output, so won't work on a TV without Scart.

Not the best time to be looking for a cheapie as there's an area currently going through switchover. When it happpened in my area, local Tesco sold out of all the cheapies.

Try eBay, there are refurbs for just over a tenner e,g, #260697265119
They've sold 1750 of them & feedback sseems OK.

Are you sure most of them don't output the picture from the freeview box through the RF out? All of mine have and they've all been cheapo ones as well.

You will, of course, lose picture quality (you add a PAL link to the chain, etc) and stereo sound if you go via the RF modulator. But for those who keep 25+ year old TVs going, good for you!

It won't output a signal suitable for an analogue TV if it doesn't have an RF modulator.
You'll have probably been connecting to a digital TV.

sent mine back to Play last week for refund.EPG dreadful and wouldnt populate, just showing "no information" on all channels.Teletext painfully slow also.
Just buy a Humax,any Humax,far better quality.

I think things are getting a bit over-complicated here. If the only thing plugged into the telly is the aerial lead, it's got a modulator!

It's a previous statement "Are you sure most of them don't output the picture from the freeview box through the RF out? All of mine have and they've all been cheapo ones as well." that I was trying to correct.
Most cheap freeview boxes don't have RF modulators, this one does, which makes it a good deal for someone who needs one with an RF modulator so they can use it on a TV without a Scart socket.

Well I'm not stupid, I did understand what was being said - I know how RF modulators work and I know that tuning in the picture on the TV from a freeview box (like a VCR) is not the same as plugging a scart lead in to the back of the TV and flipping it to scart.

I'm not sure you do understand - most of the cheap ones don't do that.
