This little unit looks like it sits functionality wise somewhere between the Western Digital Media player and the more expensive Popcorn Hour. so the price is reflective of that.

For somebody that wants the more functionality than the WDMP but doesnt want to go the whole hog. This seems a good product from a reputable brand.

Might be a little difficult to see if this a hot hot hot deal given that its a new product. But looks good to me.

CY BOX IB-MP305 is the media adapter which virtually fulfills every need. It is a specialist for Full High definition formats.

This means resolution of 1920x1080 p. It supports all common video and audio formats, including Flash video, Dolby Digital and DTS, the latter are delivered also through HDMI. The ideal stage for its employment is a Full-HD TV set or a home cinema system with demanding audio components.

Not bad, but no FLAC audio support.

Looks alright. More functionality than the WDTV but doesn't appear do anything that the upcoming WDTV Live can't. No idea on UK pricing for that yet though.

Anyone know of something like this with a DVD drive? I've a mate whose so untecky he can't manage anything other than disc's. . .

Any idea how well it browses the network? Do you have to run software on your PC? I have a windows home server which I stream to an xbox currently.

Sorry, you miss the point. If it's more involved than putting a disc in a drive he can't do it (and the ps3 won't play .mkv files which is the reason I'm looking). He has wifi but no idea how it work and has only just got his head round email.

No, what I need is something like a dvd player that'll play hd files (I thought there'd be a blu ray player that would but I can't find one).
