I noticed that the ID super pack on Steam is half price this weekend. $41.11 USD or about £23.24. Convince me that I should buy this or not.

Commander Keen

Wolfenstein 3D
Spear of Destiny + Return to Danger + Ultimate Challenge
Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Ultimate Doom
Doom II + Master Levels
Final Doom
Doom 3 + Resurrection of Evil

Heretic + Shadow of the Serpent Riders
Hexen + Deathkings of Dark Citadel
Hexen II

Quake + Scourge of Armagon + Dissolution of Eternity
Quake II + Ground Zero + The Reckoning
Quake III Arena + Team Arena

I'm of two minds to buy. No longer have copies of doom 1 and 2 and never played 3 (though I want to!). Also never actually owned Quake, just borrowed a few times. Maybe it's about time I bought it.

Its a good selection of stuff and if you've been gaming for a while some of it may make you quite nostalgic. Whether you feel its worthwhile depends on whether you enjoy a good FPS shooter - Doom 3 and RTCW are both good games, if a little fond of the "Monster hidden in the wall" trick.

Even if old, Quake and Quake II are still good value - the "mission packs" aren't that great. Quake 3/ Arena is a bit different - if you like deathmatch aginst dumb bots its OK. There are several projects such as "Doomsday" around that provide improved graphics and windows-based launchers for many of the older games in the bundle (Doom, Hexen etc), though its fair to say their appearance has dated quite badly. You can use the full WADs for these games in some of the mobile /portable gaming ports of Doom, Quake, Quake II etc.... this isn't a bad way to get hold of these files - its quite impressive watching Quake running on a mobile phone. Not great to play, but impressive....

The Commander Keen games aren't bad either, for DOS-era platformers.

I think it's worth it - I've played most of the older games but never personally owned them. Gives me a good reason to buy and play through them again.

It's no more than about 4 cinema tickets - so if you get more than 8 hours enjoyment out of everything, I figure it's worth a punt :)

Regardless, HOT deal for the price I think.

If you have broadband and want something a little more up to date you can also buy CounterStrike: Source on PC DVD from Sendit.com for £6.89. This also includes WWII team shooter game Day of Defeat:Source and Half-Life2 Deathmatch.
These are all excellent team games, if you like shooting things.

As a big player of DoD:Source I reckon it is worth £6.89 for that game alone.
P.S. And even though Return to Castle Wolfenstein is looking a little old it's still a fantastic game.

Which Keen games does it include? The later ones (Keen 4, and Keen dreams) were quite good back ni the day? If I remember rightly though Keen 1 sorta sucked?

They could be a laugh though!

It says it includes all 5 Commander Keen games.

Steam has a weekend deal nearly every weekend. Just keep checking and good things come up (I find myself purchasing their weekend deals at least once a month)..
