If you own a Dyson DC05 Motorhead vacuum cleaner, manufactured between 2000-2005, there has been an electrical fault found which required a replacement part to be retro-fitted. However, Dyson are offering owners the opportunity to purchase a brand new Dyson DC23 Allergy, RRP £300 (yes, I know they can be had much cheaper) for the sum of just £85. I have just arranged mine, and simply need to package the old vac in a bin liner with an address label ready for the courier to take when he brings the new one. New vac, new 5yr warranty, all for just £85. I was going to pay for a service call at £69, so in effect it has only effectively been £16 more for me.

This is not accepting the serial number from my DC05. It just says "please enter a valid serial number".
Is it because it is an Australian site, or is it accepting other people's serial numbers ok?

It looks like the Motorhead version of the DC05 is one with a powered brush head, and mine doesn't have that anyway.

I just rang as I received a letter today and they said the replacement is a DC23 Allergy, not animal.
This is usless to me as it has no rotating head to get dog and cat hairs up.
Can anyone please confirm they are definetly getting an animal?

I Phoned too and they said there were 3 options:

1. Send out a free part to fix the problem which you attach your self.
2. £85 for a a DC23 Allergy, not animal.
3. additional £43 for turbo head which I guess is the same as fitted to the animal this is powered by suction and not electrically powered like the DC05 motorhead.

PS Turbo head out of stock :x

Don't see why they couldn't do the Animal for the difference i.e. £128 but not tried that line of questioning yet and not sure if that is the only difference.

The Animal head can be had for IRO £25 for the mini one, and £40 for the full width. I'll probably opt for the mini one as we mainly use the cylinder vac on the stairs and have an upright for the rest.

Apologies for misrepresenting the offer, it should read 'Allergy'. Can someone change it ?

I ordered mine the other day as well. Delivery is for Tuesday.

Can't go wrong for £85, with the guarantee works out at £17 per year if you look at it in that way.

Looking forward to Tuesday for delivery of this and ...this

Got ours yesterday, but the courier wouldn't take the old DC05. He came back today, tail between legs still claiming Dyson had not notified them about this, but I pointed it out on the delivery note which clearly stated in the comments section, 'Collect old M/C' !

Seems to work very well with some clever design touches over the old unit. I'll be getting the mini turbine head from somewhere (Argos, Comet, Curry's all have stock) soon. We only use the cylinder for the stairs and car, having a Ball upright for the rest of the house so the mini one will be fine at £25.
