Gerber Suspension Multi-Plier £19.27 delivered @ Amazon (PhotoGearUK )

Was looking for a Leatherman and came accros this style. 130 5*'s out off 207 and only 7 1*'s, so not bad, so this is my option, and at only £19.27 with holster too. RRP £49.99

It does look good but it seems to always be about this price on camelcamelcamel, so not sure how much of a deal...

Welcome to 1 month ago(_;)

I bought a Suspension off the old thread and have been using it for 3 weeks or more and its a great tool for a tidy price. Had no problems with the locking or quality so far. It tops my Leatherman skeletool for function, price and usability!

Where did you get your SOG from barneydog? $55 is a good price to pay, they always seem around the £80 when I look for them.

Amazon.com and the $55 included P&P, it was on offer
Good find thanks
brought one of these in December to take snowboarding (adjusting bindings ect)
I paid £18 from Amazon then.

knife blade is very short less than 2 inches, so if you will use it everyday buy an entry level leatherman for £35.

good quality though and worth the money.

it also comes with a nice warning lable stating that the materials its made with can cause cancer.
The blade on this is 2" at the most, however due to the locking mechanism on this it is probably classed as a 'lock knife' (despite being a multi-tool). However, the law around this isnt incredibly strict, having a labouring job (carpet fitter, builder etc) or going camping is enough of a reason to carry one in public legally.

Personally I think that unless you fit within a certain demographic (age & location) you would be absolutely fine carrying it with you.

Im in my late thirties, have a good job etc so I will be happy to defend myself in court should the time come. If I was in my late teens / early twenties I probably wouldnt take the chance.

How many innocent people have been convicted of crimes they didn't commit?

Here's my two-pennies worth. This is one of the easiest mult-tools to make street legal. You can easily remove the locking mechanism and springs. I did it to one of mine. Heat added

It's only my personal opinion.I'm 41 years old and consider myself pretty clued up.I can't think of a better justification having one in your car, than that it's in a car.For maintenance breakdown repairs the list is endlessin relation to cars.Any sort of job that even vaguely required tools you've been clear.Friday night out on the town no. By the way if you think America likes guns you should see their knives.I laughed when I saw UK legal nonlocking one hand opening combat knives for sale.
I agree with you mate but a court likely wouldnt.
Having it in a car for repairs is no justification as there are lots of alternatives that would do a similar job that do not contain a locking blade.
Its not the tool as a whole you need to provide justification for, its the illegal part, the locking blade contained within.
Its just not worth the risk and a lot of people have found this out the hard way. This guy for one

All well and good. But he is shown allegedly posing with the "the penknife found in his glove compartment" But he is clearly not the "penknife" because the knife would have been seized as evidence and destroyed on his conviction. And it couldn't be a penknife because being in possession of "penknife" would be a reasonable defence. Oh hang around it's the Mail, I thought we were talking about reality for a moment there ;)
Looks like theres more to that story here
Wasnt just a penknife, was a serated lock knife and he threatened to use it. My bad for believing the mail :|

Well I’ve just spent half an hour removing the locking mechanises from one of my Gerber Suspension Multi-Tools. Should be interesting if I am stopped by the Bizzies :D

Heat added

Ha you will be fine...unless your blade is 3 or more inches...if so you've wasted your time :p

Ok for pocket knives, but locking blades are ilegal (without a good excuse, work etc) whatever the length.

Erm yeh...that's been clarified. He's on about removing the locking mechanism so it's no longer a lock knife...hense if the blade is less than 3 inches its fine!

These are ok for what you pay, but nowhere near as good as a leatherman which can be bought from amazon.com inc pre-paid import duty that I've always had refunded on the ~15 items I've got from there. Even factoring in the import duty deposit amazon.com is still way cheaper than .uk. Check out the leatheman juice s2 for a non-locking alternative to this for a few quid more.
How do you go about getting the duty refunded?
Good price but unfortunately not good steel. OK for light, occasional use but if you need to cut your arm off because it's been trapped under a rock for 127 hours you'll wish you had something better.

Hot because it's cheaper than elsewhere but not for me, thanks

"Good price, just be aware it's a locking blade and so illegal to carry unless you have a REASONABLE excuse.

Not reasonable:

I use it to peel fruit.
I'm an electrician but in the pub after work having a drink.

Reasonable:
on a camping trip
fishing
whilst at work as an electrician, plumber etc.
popping out for a spot of stabbing"

:D
