I noticed that IJT Direct Ltd have the Acer Aspire One AOA150 Netbook listed as available for purchasing (came across it whilst looking at another deal posted on HotUKDeals) - the original cost is £194.90p but if you use the 10% discount code of EWT99 it will reduce the price down to £175.41p at checkout (this includes the cost of delivery as well)

Listed below are the technical specifications for them and note that that you have to scroll down the bottom of the page via the reseller's link to see them.

Acer Aspire One Netbook - AOA150-AW (IJT Code: Acer2)
8.9" TFT Screen
1GB of RAM
120GB SATA Hard Disk
Linpus Lite Linux Operating System

Acer Aspire One Netbook - AOA150-AB (IJT Code: Acer3)
8.9" TFT Screen
1GB of RAM
120GB SATA Hard Disk
Linpus Lite Linux Operating System

*** As requested by other members I am waiting for the reseller IJT Direct Ltd to confirm whether this is a brand new or refurbished units ***

These are additional links that were posted previously on the Asda Deal Thread and thought them prudent to include for reference.

FAN AND CPU CONTROL:

There are two good applications to control fan control - AA1 fan control (google it for links) and A1CTL. However, only one controls the CPU speed too (A1CTL)

I recommend everyone use A1CTL as it is a much more powerful utility. It allows you to set when the fan is off, when the fan is on low (AA1 doesn't allow this) and when the fan is on full power. Alongside this, it also allows CPU throttling - so that when you are on battery power it will restrict the CPU to 800Mhz (highly recommended). This results in the advertised 3 hours battery life! It also allows you to turn on and off Aspire One components and fiddle with the screen settings (for those that really need more than 600 pixels. Oh, and interestingly it fixed the HDD clicking sound some (including myself) have seen on some of these laptops (its due to poor hdd memory management and can be disabled with this app).

Firstly, A1CTL has a homepage at http://nodadev.wordpress.com/ - you can download the application at http://noda.free.fr/dev/a1ctl_v0.4.rar ... you'll need winrar (www.rarlabs.com) to open it - and extract the files to c:a1ctl

Once downloaded, you'll need to install this runtime: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=25437D98-51D0-41C1-BB14-64662F5F62FE&displaylang=en

Now, try running c:a1ctla1ctl.exe - if it gives you a .ocx error, follow the instructions here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/faqshow.php?id=8 - after registering the .ocx file you'll be able to run a1ctl.exe

Now, it will ask you to patch the ACPIEC - i cannot remember what this does but I think its a good thing (read more on the net - you can always undo it later). Once the application is running, click on it in the system tray, and choose Configure.

Here you can set all the fan speed temps etc... I am currently using stop under 55c, slow at 60c and full fan at 65c. Most people will tell you its safe to allow the machine to run up to 70c - its your call!

Also, you can choose to restrict the CPU to 800Mhz when on Battery - to do this, choose 800Mhz when on battery power, and Dynamic when on AC power. Dynamic will allow the system to go to 1.6Gz when an application needs it - however of course it uses more battery power!

[FONT="Verdana"]Thanks for that mate - as soon as I saw it I thought it best to post, as I've been helping other members out on the Asda deal thread but they couldn't find them anywhere else.

This beats the ASDA deal hands down, on the same site you get the 512mb one for under 150 quid with the code.

[FONT="Verdana"]Hi Asinine, just to let you know the one that comes with the 512MB of RAM is equipped with the 8GB PCIe SSD for disk storage rather than the SATA hard disk - not sure if you saw this but just wanted to let you know mate.

Very good deal but i would be a bit wary of them being refurbs looking at the lack of detail on the site and some of the other pc's they are selling.

Good deal if new as it takes away the hastle of installing the extra memory to run XP properly
#13
Voted HOT because this is currently £199 at Tesco's.

Has anyone ordered of this company before?

I believe they are brand new rather than refurbished units and I've sent an email into the reseller to confirm that for this deal - agree as that was a stumbling block for members on the Asda deal.

Let us know what they say if they are new or refurbished. If they are new I will be putting a order in but I guess we won't find out until Monday.

[FONT="Verdana"]I've not used them before myself (I only came across them from another deal posted on here just yesterday) but there have been other deals previously posted for them with mixed responses - from what I can see they appear to be okay but I maybe proved wrong by other members.

I've also requested the moderators to unexpire this deal as well and I'm updating it with links from the Asda deal as well, for reference purposes.

The new version is out soon and may be the same price as the old one, but has a 10" screen as reported:

http://arstechnica.com/hardware/news/2009/01/pics-of-acer-aspire-one-with-10-inch-screen-surface.ars

If so this would explain the recent box shifting of this item, i would like one but i would also like one with a 10" screen .. where does it end :D

If its usb then I see no reason why not, if you have the windows drivers.

Are we to assume these are the 120Gb models with the old BIOS or is it another case of box saying 120 but them actually being 160's?
Also re the 10% discount, it does say "Promotional offers do not apply to this product"
#26
I think they have changed it now....promo def not working, boo

I'm canceling the deal as they've changed it so you can't use the discount code any further (it was available earlier on) - apologies all and if anybody ordered it already you should be covered.

Thats the whole idea of having a netbook, ssd is better than hard drives, because theres no moving parts. But user preference.

[FONT="Verdana"]Very true mate but some of the members want lots of disk space without forking out lots for a larger PCIe SSD. ;-)

Bingo. Arrived today as stated, 1024 RAM, 120Gb HDD. All boxed and no reason to suggest a refurb.
The OS is pretty unsophisticated but it suits me and the kids nicely.
Typing on it now so me a happy bunny!

I'm glad at least somebody managed to get one! :-D

No no....thank you! It was a good spot while it lasted.

The website is definitely one to keep an eye on as they have all sorts of goodies and gizmos for grabs.

Thanks again.
