  Am I right in thinking these are just 'warm white' and fixed brightness or ???

  well known to stop eye strain and enhance the blacks ,i enjoy to watch a blu ray in the dark with just the dioders on to accentuate the black levels with white at the back philips launched the ambilight tvs but they never really took off ,try it you will get what i mean

  I havnt heard of backlighting plasmas could you show in pictures how it looks setup.My plasma is about 2ft away from the wall as the wall couldnt handle the weight of the plasma so its on a stand.Any useful info be appreciated.

  mate its hard to show really the 4 strips just stick to the back of your panel top bottom side etc then plug them in and thats about it theres a massive thread on avf about it ill try to find it plasma backlighting

  I have it in the bedroom but never got around to doing the living room tv.

  When actually watching tv white is your best bet as it doesn't clash with what you're watching. Personally I think it works best just doing the sides if you've mounted the tv close to the wall as it has the subliminal effect of widening the picture. Everything said about reducing eyestrain and enhancing the picture is very true.
