This goes the same for all drawer units, think these drawers are the best, very solid and not the usual crappy thin wood for the base. Yes there's been loads of publicity over these falling onto children but I think that's because their popular and we don't hear of the others heat added

It's the 5 drawer chest that that refers to - which weighs an absolute ton! This one is shorter and far lighter, but it would definitely be a good idea to fix these to a wall as all the ikea stuff is much more substantial than the Argos stuff.

Yes, not a design flaw of these specifically, as originally made out in the media. Fixing any large freestanding furniture (i.e. bookcases) to a wall is always a good idea, but then so is raising your kids to not climb on things they shouldn't.

Anyway, heat, OP - i have 2 sets of the larger ones which remain solid.

Ikea's cheap design is particulary dangerous - the back is made of light ply, whereas the three facing sides are made out of dense fibre board, the resulting weight and unbalance means that once it tips over, it will flatten a child.. so the same could be said of "all designs of cabinets made to maximise profit and reduce cost".

The smaller towers like these aren't as bad as the bigger version.

The sides internally are made like a honeycomb and strong cardboard. However ours are still going strong after 10 years.

I got two chest of drawers recently. A 5 drawer (£60) and a 6 drawer(£100). Both fantastic quality. Very sturdy and solid. Included with the parts of both units are two hooks to screw to the wall to stop them falling over (this included the 6 drawer which is 3 drawers high by 2 wide)

I've got one of the 6 drawer ones in my little boys bedroom, but it is fixed to the wall.. I think at the moment the biggest risk is him pulling the cables from the tv and that falling on him.. and maybe the millions of cables in a modern home.. or maybe the ant killer that I spilt on the floor.. or all the plastic everywhere full of noxious chemicals.. or the confusing car seats.. argh.
