I suppose this thread will descend into the usual Mac v. PC argument, but £150 off the RRP can't be sniffed at. Good price! I'd be tempted if I had access to an airport.

Although I think you mean 21.5", not 2.15"!

Right you both are, title edited :p

You could always buy a £1 Ryan Scare or Cheesy jet flight, take only "cabin" baggage and then miss your flight.

Buy your item and then go home dissapointed at not going to see Granny ;)

What about VAT and import duty? Or is there none?

Nope, no duty, vat is included in the price, Dixons Travel is not a duty free tax free store. I just paid £850.50, I do work at the airport but we are not lucky enough to get any discount at Dixons so the price is as is for everyone

I bought the same model at Heathrow. Dixons just basically gives you a 17.5% off all stock at its airport shops. Of course, the Dixons RRP might be a tad higher than Amazon/Play etc, but on rarely discounted goods like Apple, it's always worth a look. I try to buy my Apple stuff there whenever possible and Dixons has been running this deal for years now.

If you are flying to an EU destination, the airport might hold the goods for you to pick up on your return. This is the case at the Heathrow branches. If you are flying to a non-EU destination, you have to collect the goods at purchase or pay £5 to have them delivered.

Goods normally have to be in stock at any time from the start to the return of your journey or you won't be allowed to buy them, but the new website indicates that you can reserve a purchase up to a week in advance of your departure.

Very True about the Dixons / Apple Prices, I also bouth the magic trackpad with mine and it was £56 instead of £60 and Apple TV was only £94 instead of £99, software seems a little cheaper too

I thought you had to show your passport and boarding card when buying anything from an airport shop.... can employees buy for the same price as travelers then? surely the security clamp down on this or dixons cover the VAT on behalf of the employees? the government doesn't like loopholes.

Also, do these stores sell Canon 5d camera's? I am looking to buy one and 17.5% off £2500 would be worth booking a cheap weekend getaway to get it cheaper

Yes you do have to show your boarding card, airport staff have to show their Airport i.d and also have valid reason to be airside, i.e already working airside, airport staff can buy anything airside as long as its not duty free goods, i.e Cigs and Alcohol, Perfumes and Aftershaves etc are permitted. I can let you know about a price on the camera when im next in work which is in a couple of days.

illegitimi_uk's idea of getting a cheap single RyanAir ticket for £6 or £8 is a good idea. Just go back out with the goods and say you changed your mind about the flight. Great saving if you can get 17.5% off.
