what do they get out of this then>?

They get what is called "Profit"

UK Mail have a different charge structure with Royal Mail so they essentially get the postage cheaper the we individual punters do. UK Mail carries out a lot of the functions Royal Mail does, eg, sorting, batching, delivery to local depot, with Royal Mail carrying out the final bit with the RM postman sending the card through your letterbox.

I have also heard previously that UK Mail can post items in on the continent, Germany, France etc and because these countries have deregulated cheaper prices, it is cheaper for UK Mail to post the items there, and these items have to be honoured by RM when the land in the UK.

It is all very well people saying they would prefer to stick to Royal Mail, but with part deregulation coming soon to RM, postage in the UK is going to change massively. We just have to get used to it.

If I want to write a quick letter to someone I have to organise a pen, paper, envelope and stamp. Then a trip to a post box that could also include some petrol and a car. Alternatively, I can write one here on iMail, they print it and post it and it costs me 42p, yes forty-two pence in TOTAL. If I use the other method above it is going to cost me at least 50p for a 2nd class stamp, then I have to add on the other items and the time.

What do iMail get out of it? A new customer and Profit!
