I think you'll find the S3 mini is the bloater, it's over half centimeter thicker. Nexus 4 is tall and slim, S3 mini short and stubby :)

I don't know why you bother (gsmarena.com)...

SAMSUNG I8190 GALAXY S III MINI
121.6 x 63 x 9.9 mm (4.79 x 2.48 x 0.39 in)

LG NEXUS 4 E960
133.9 x 68.7 x 9.1 mm (5.27 x 2.70 x 0.36 in)

There is less than a millimetre (0.8 ) difference in the thickness. It seems silly, but did you by any chance compare the widths (68.7 - 63 = 5.7) to come to your >0.5cm difference? It's easy done... it's not like we haven't all done similar things.

SIII Mini or Nexus 4? hmm let me think.
I know. I mean how could you even consider the Nexus 4 with it's tiny non-expandable storage. You'd have to be crazy. Thankfully you can't really get hold of one anyway so it's a bit of a non-issue.

SIII Mini or Nexus 4? hmm let me think...

Why would you need to think??!! Have you even considered that some people (including me) would be looking for an Android phone that isn't the size of a house!!!

The clue is in the name my fiend - Mini!!! Some people don't want to carry round an oversized bloater in their pocket even if it does have better screen, functions etc.

Plus Samsung isn't exactly an unknown, unreliable brand is it!?

Hot from me!!! I bought the same phone from Asda 6 months ago at £199 (and that was the best offer at the time). (_;)

Razr z i

If I am looking at the right phone 'Razr I' (can't seem to find a 'Z I') then it costs about a hundred quid more. Good phone, but doesn't detract from the value of this.

smellyonion
Orange San Diego

Decent alternative if you don't need expandable storage. It's a bit cheaper but networked locked (and branded), so you may have to pay a bit more (£20?) to get it unlocked (should you need to). Decent phone overall though, but doesn't detract from the value of this.

smellyonion
prestigio 4500.

It's an interesting choice, and similarly priced. If you are comfortable leaving the major brands and want dual-sim it is definitely an option. It isn't any more powerful than the Samsung, although does have a slightly bigger screen at 4.5" (if you were to prefer that). Decent phone if you want dual-sim, but doesn't detract from the value of this.

-------------------------------

Look, I'm done. I really don't think anyone will be able to come up with solid reasons why this is bad value. It's a reasonably specced lower mid-level phone that doesn't have any major weaknesses, from a major manufacturer at a decent price (and seems to be generally liked by reviewers and owners). I don't see how anyone could argue with that, but like I said... I'm done. Peace. :D

Edit: Actually the Samsung does have one major weakness for me. No notification LED. That kind of thing is annoying because there just is no sensible reason for leaving something like that out. Lacking a notification LED isn't an automatic deal-breaker for me, but it's a *big* black mark.
Yes razr I, it's 149 from three.

what kind of pleb is in the market for a tablet that's too small and a phone that's too big?
has this has AMOLED screen ??

as AMOLED IS FAR SUPERIOR to ANY Backlit screen ( Led LCDs )

viewing angles ? from any angle, blacks are pure ( pixels are OFF ) , it is like viewing a magazine page, there is no backlight, the pixels are lit as needed ( think CRT tech ) and its the purest , most stunning image possible

the image difference quality is HUGE , anyone thinking there isn't much difference has most likely never owned a AMOLED screen, the image is perfect from any angle, it just doesn't alter, like I said, its like a magazine page,

on a LCD screen, the images are always washed out, as the panel cant block all the light, yes, ipad retina has mega brightness to fool you into thinking there is high contrast, but your eyestrain will tell you otherwise, there is simply no comparison to a true LED screen like AMOLED

in the future it will all be amoled, right now though its very pricey, but in many ways worth it, as they are stunning displays, and the display has got to be the most important aspect,

Bought my black plastic MacBook for £899 and sold it three and a half years later (still running the latest software) for £410. Bought a MacBook Pro in the US for £749.
A three and a half year old Windows laptop would be worth peanuts.
(Same is true in the iPhone debate)
I am so disappointed at the level of comments on here.
People buy macs for the operating system, and the customer service/warranty service. Everything else is secondary. I'd almost say that the specs on the machine are the least important

Is this the old one? The non retina low res version that they are rumoured to stop making this year? Quite heavy as well
Technically it's not the old one as it's a current model, but no it's not the retina one.

I'd be surprised if this line did not last at least another year.

The problem with the latest MacBook Pros (Retina display and probably forthcoming Haswell chip) is that they have been made so you can't open them up to swap batteries, hard drives, etc.

you can't swap out the hd for an ssd in this mac?
You can on this MacBook, but not the retina models.

Lol at the powerful comment.. so what about the Nexus 4, Sony z, HTC one etc all faster phones.

and the nexus 4 even costs less.

this is a plastic toy from Samsung.

Yeh of course it is. dope
Lol at more powerful than a laptop.
Even the pair of quadcores of the s4 probably wot match an i3 in processing power.
Plus the cost of a sim deal, so add another say 240, 575 over 2 years, much better deals out there,

Got my i7 base model a couple days ago, threw 16gb corsair vengeance RAM in for 70, and then stuck a 128gb Samsung 830 ssd in as well, with a 1tb WD caviar blue drive in the empty space inside.

Over 13000 on geek bench, so I'm happy with that :) Not bad for 750 quid. Shame about the integrated graphics, but they still perform well at 1080p. External thunderbolt GPU cases are available as well, should I end up wanting to convert it into a tiny gaming rig. You only lose 7% performance on average on a 7970, which is fantastic.

you'd lose far more than 7% mate... thunderbolt bandwidth is no way near that of PCI-E 2.0

The stock is already with Amazon yes. This does not mean it is the UK model with a UK charger. You can get it direct from Amazon for only £8 more, which is a UK model, making this deal ice cold (unless you're the person trying to sell them).
as said if you're not happy for WHATEVER reason then send it back at NO cost to you.
Stock is sent to Amazon to forward on so still can be GREY stocks. Don't trust low rated sellers with pricey items

sorry but not true the stock is already with amazon and they will send it out with their packaging and their warranty . Bought many a times and returned a few times when it's fulfilled by amazon. You just send it back to amazon for a refund. Don't see this as a hassle.

Have both samsung galaxy s3 and iphone 5 both brilliant handsets but I must admit iOS is better then android the apps are released a lot quicker on apple and the updates are more frequent for example android had sky go now since jellybean released no one can use it and that was like 5 odd weeks ago where as on iOS that would never happen because the apps are updated and made useable for when iOS update there firmware so my own personal choice if I had to pick out of the two it would be the iphone 5

The benefit of the iPhone for development is there are not many varieties of the same handset around, whereas for Android there's loads. The way around such issues is to get one of the more developer friendly handsets, i.e. Nexus variety.

I'm guessing you still need to jailbreak the latest one to make it anywhere near usable?!

Have to agree as a 4S/iPad/MacBook/iMac owner I am mighty jealous of the S3 at the moment. Although I think the Note 2 is even better but just a little bit too big.
Ideal for people who keep their phone in their bag rather than pocket. I.e. women, or men with a "man bag".

I just received a AWD "like new" Galaxy Note today and it had 4 small cracks around the charger port and marks around the power and volume buttons.

Phone came in a white OEM box, phone was stuck to a white piece of card and the battery, charger and headphones were left to rattle around the box (no padding at all).

Have to send it back at my expense and claim the money back.

Pretty poor from Amazon to be honest when they are usually good and never had an issue in the past.

So I wouldn't assume the S3 would be any better.
Very surprised by this, whenever I've had an issue with anything from Amazon they always pay the postage.

They said they will pay, but I need to pay up front and send them a copy of the receipt via email. They'll then add it to my refund (unless I choose courier pick-up and I can print the label off - but no good to me as not at home for it to be collected and courier can't collect from where I work).

I think part of the issue may be it's Amazon Warehouse (not Amazon) as I couldn't exchange it either (even though they have others showing in stock), the only option was a refund.

No such thing.

LTE is being released in major cities in the UK 30th October 2012, followed by a nationwide launch in 2013.

If you get this device you will be stuck with 3G, which granted some may like but in a years time will regret their purchase hence the term future-proof.

I don't think you understand. NOTHING is 'future proof' as technology is eternally advancing. Take DVDs for an example. Now they've been superseded by Blu-ray.

Anyway, You'd better check the LTE schedule as your dates are a bit optimistic and sorely lacking the word 'from' ;) I've been assured by EE that 4G won't arrive in Cambridge until late 2013 at the earliest, by which time people will be posting deals for the Galaxy S4 (rumoured for a February launch: http://bostinno.com/2012/10/05/samsung-galaxy-s4-release-date-samsung-is-readying-another-iphone-killer-with-the-gs-4-specs-photos-video/#ss__238913_228551_0__ss).

I don't think you quite understand the direction that technology is heading...You seem to think that handsets like these will stick around forever and they will be on everybody's christmas list when you are unaware that the UK is currently BEHIND countries like azerbaijan in terms of internet connectivity! 4G can penetrate through walls and is better than 3G so you are bound to get a single no matter where you are.

Hence why they are making such a push for 4G and why you should be looking to buy a 4G ready handset instead of 3G p[hone.

Also the dates i mentioned are for major cities(which I had stated) as shown here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19816317
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/9583970/EE-to-launch-4G-services-at-the-end-of-October.html

Heh. I'm working on an IMT-A project at the moment, so I've a pretty good idea where the technology is going ;)

The rest of what you say is conjecture and opinion, and although I'm happy to help people see through the marketing propaganda and understand the reality of the situation, I'm not into arguing against people that make assumptions with regards to myself ("You seem to think"), misinterprets news headlines ("EE's 4G mobile network roll-out to start 30 October") and brings irrelevant information into the discussion as oppose to debating the relevant parts ("Hence why they are making such a push for 4G").

I'm off out now, so please do have a nice time, and don't let anyone destroy your Faith ;)

Voted cold due to the blatant iPhone plagiarism :(

Its what the iphone wants to be,the s3 is a much better phone

So the let's just go copy but tweak it a bit is ok with you then I take it!?
I would rather the lets go find our own concept and change the way people use there phones attitude( what apple did with the iPhone) myself
Fine with me, it hasn't copied it, everthing about it is better, the iphone os is so dated and slow, someone comes out with a better phone so apple sue them

So your saying that Samsung hasn't copied the iPhone?! You can't be serious right?
There wasn't a phone around that even resembled the iPhone when it came out! Then all the other phone makers all copied it in there own way large screen no buttons touch screen that actually worked properly ect ect....
My point was that other phone manufactures should be concentrating on the own individual ground break devices just like apple did. Surely us the consumers would be the only ones to benefit from such devices that would be out there instead of firms like Samsung just taking someone else's idea and take all the things that the general publice like and tweaking it!!

This deal listing was listed as direct from amazon not by a seller on amazon and their price update is to £446.99 not £442.50 but Seller T-setter is selling it for £442.50 so if you wanted to list this deal at that price update it to an individual seller too instead of amazon themselves like this post was originally posted for.

If only you could swap (or add) the word quality to diverse, then it'd be a no brainier for me.
Comparing the same apps on my S3 with the apps on my iPod, I don't see what you mean about quality? Both seem very similar to me.And then you have those wonderful apps that only Android has, that takes advantage of it's open os. Hence why S3 was a no brainer for me.
I am genuinely pleased that you find that the apps you use are all the quality ones. I'm not saying that they are all chaff, but the spectrum of quality ones for me are broader on IOS.IOS App vs Android AppiPeng vs SqueezerMeter Readings vs Meter Readings (a poor mimic of the IOS app by someone else)Road Trip vs Fuel LogDarkness vs ??? (Daylight hours app)MyStuff2 vs MyHome...I really could go on and on, but if anyone spends any time comparing the above apps there is always a clear winner when it comes to usability and user experience and it is the IOS apps.Happily Ocado, Kindle, IP cam viewer, dropbox, livedrive, amazon, train times and picasa web albums are as good or better!Don't get me wrong, I am no fanboy and think that in so many ways android is the better experience. I run a 4S and HTC Desire and still think that the Desire is the best smartphone I have owned, Android just doesn't tick all the boxes for me, yet!

I know what you're saying. I'm holding out for the Galaxy Note 2 or iPhone 5, they are quite different phones but after weighing up the probable pros and cons of each it's not very clear cut which I should go for. Ofc I'm getting way ahead of myself even thinking about it. Will just have to w8 and see.
Amazon marketplace is showing it upto £50 cheaper, does anyone have any experience of buying phone through them? Not grey imports or anything like that is it?

Price matched Play.com but I'd much rather go for this deal with Amazon due to their amazing customer service should anything go wrong. Really considering selling my iPhone 4S for this phone!

if you do get a s3, get juice defender! it has imporved my battery life by 1.9 times! absolutely amazing!
Ha ha lumia 900 better dont make me laugh.Worst phone on the market.Youd be better off buying a frozen turkey, more ise and not limited and boring like windows.I work in phone sales and these thing arent selling.I was given one feom nokia to use and found it had far too many limitations. The s3 is a far better bet.Expandable storage, bluetooth, flash, more free app, better customisations, plaus more video formats, the list is endless.Mine 900 lasted a week untill i traded it in.Thanks nokoa but noooo thanks

good phone and good price however would you really sell a 4s with at least a respectable battery life for an android phone that will ooze battery life from the word go

Not true, my SII could last 72hours+ with a fair amount of usage (hundreds of texts/barely any calls), although it was flashed with Siyah Kernel and using Checkrom HD. I can easily go a whole day with very heavy usage on the SIII and haven't even flashed it yet.

this. I've had mine over a week, but not really had much chance to use it in anger yet (on holiday from today :D )

I charged it last Thursday and let it run out. All it was doing was picking up emails.
It ran out on Tuesday.

Note 2
The difference between this and a contract one with 600/ultd/1Gb is only £140(ish), over 2 years thats pretty cheap for what you get and you don't have an upfront cost.

Would rather wait and see what the iphone 5 will be like,
no doubt it will be soo much better than the S3 in terms of built quality and spec

I'm gonna wait for the 5s ;)

Quick post from my phone so apologies for lack of detail. Couldn't see any other cheaper buy outright deals around at the moment. Feel free to correct me if I've missed something.
