But if you do 2 year+ they normally give discounts after your first year. The way things are $9.99 will be worth about £3 by then:lol:

Nobody can ever 'own' a domain name, they're all technically on lease, yep even Ebay.com:lol:

They manage the registration/lease of the name.

Sort of like car license plates or mobile phone numbers. You can keep and transfer the numbers as long as you maintain their registration. Let it lapse and someone else can use them after you have.

Thanks Shengis, voted hot!

One thing though - is the hosting in the US? As it does mean slighly longer ping rates if most of your users are in the UK (110ms vs 10ms).

Russ, I would assume so. I just redirect my 'extra' throwaway domains to my .net hosting so don't know.

I'd strongly recommend AGAINST that approach, as you can have your domain terminated if the details are found to be fake.

I've voted it warm.

I haven't heard good things about their hosting personally, but I guess there are many people perfectly happy with it. However I'm not a fan of .info's either to be honest - I'd recommend against a .info if you want it for a business site or something though (if it is for a business site etc., you probably want a .COM or .NET or possibly .ORG) as the general consensus is that .INFO makes it look less professional.

Personally I prefer to use NameCheap for domain registration anyway though (plus every so often they do offers where you get free whois privacy).

While its true you can get a domain cancelled for fake info, that wasn't actually what I was suggesting. As a private registrant I have no problem putting my name and mobile details for all to see (nobody can force me to answer a number withheld call), my address on the other hand... No thanks, I upset WAY too many trolls to risk that one:whistling: To get round this easily I use a PO Box address that redirects to my workplace. Completely within ICANN rules as the contact info is up to date and valid.

I agree on your .INFO comments, not a particularly good idea for a business, more suited to clubs/enthusiast sites or maybe even sites offering links to cheap stuff;-) But then I feel the same way about .WS .TV etc. Prefer .NET's myself as they're more general purpose.
