Whats the best card i could get for around £150.

I got told not to go for the 8800gtx because there was a card that has just come out that is allot cheaper and nerly just as good.

Any ideas

Good price though on this.

what's with the d-sub output? lol
#5
I know I found this but will this be ok on a 250W PSU? :?

I dont want to go changing it if possible
#6
You can have the Leadtek version with an extra 256mb of onboard memory and dual DVI for an extra couple of quid.

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136310

I don't know if this is DDR3 memory like the Inno3D card but I am a bit of a fan of Leadtek and their highly overclockable kit.

No you'll need more juice than that I think janz. There are some reasonable deals out there for PSUs though at the mo. Just don't buy a naf no branded one. I'll have a quick lookk for you and be back in a second...

Here you go. Nice Arctic power PSU 500Watts for £25 inc VAT. This is cheap for a branded PSU and gets very good reviews.

This would be more than enough for this card and the rest of your rig.

do you think this would fit in the dell vostro 200mt that was very cheap last week?
#11
@Mansfield193

That would be the 8800GT but they arnt £150 yet more like 175+

best card for £150 is the Nvidia 8800gt the 512mb version nearly as fast as the gtx another choise you have is the ATI 3870 for about £140 and the 3850or around £100 it all depends on size of screen you want to run which you go for and the onboard ram you choise .

This card is no good for new games like crysis and gears of war or bioshock it hasnt the power it will barely play dx10 games but at the price not bad i would personally save the extra £40 and get the ATI 3850 which will handle all the games at a decent frame rate and is HDCP Ready

Heres a good overview of the various graphics chipsets and how they generally compare performance wise:

I bought XperVision 8600GT 256MB, GDDR3 from Amazon for £47 couple of month. It's been working out great for me. It came with Tomb Raider Anniversary edition, DVI-VGA dongle & SPDIF connector. This Inoo3D is for an extra couple of quid you only get HDTV out. XpertVision only has 2xDVI / TV out. I have not tried it for more power hungry games like Crysis, but I don't think it's upto the task of playing high end games. I am happy with this card, then again grass is always greener on the other side. :)

D-Sub is VGA.

This is a good deal, but as others have mentioned, is not the gaming beast that is the 8800GT (the current "best-buy" for today's high-end games)

How much better is this than a plain Geforce 6600? Thanks.

Decided to upgrade from my trusty old Nvidia 6600GT today...

However I went for the much better ATI 3850 @ £91 from e-buyer. It was tempting to go for the 8800GT 512mb but I've got to get a new case and processor soon, so thought better not.

Edit: Toscy - how much better is it than a 6600?

Well let's compare 3DMark 03 scores....my 6600GT put in around 3000 as a score
a 8600GT will put around 15000 as a score
The ATI 3850 will get around 29000
#18
like i said its alright for the older games im judging it because i have seen both i own the xfx8800gt and know people that have 8600gt and there is no comparison the difference is price my card cost £183 Vs £53 for this if your board supported sli you could use 2 for a power increase if you already owned a 8600gt but wouldnt be worth buying 2 as for less money you could get a 3850
#19
with 3dmark 06 my 8800gt scored around 14000
#20
I got this card with 3GB of RAM and a 2.4 quad core processor and it can only play Crysis on low settings...

a bit strange, I expected it to be able to play on at least medium, but never mind that, low is quite reasonable.

Bought this exact card for my Stepson for Christmas to go in a Dell Vostro 200 which we got him when he went to Uni (You know, the one with the wrong graphics card description back in October)

He's very happy with it as he wanted to be able to play COD4, and now he can. I got this as I'd read that it has no problem working with the installed PSU in the Dell, and so far that is the case. I know that I could have spent a bit more and got better, but isn't that always the case. He's not an extreme gamer anyway - he'd much rather sit for hours on end playing medieval - total war. I guess he sees it as research for his History degree - along with his Sharpe dvd box set he got for his 18th!

So basically, anybody wanting a cheapish upgrade for a Dell Vostro - these work a treat!
#22
This plays cod4 on highest settings beatifully

I'm so, so tempted to buy one of these now.

Went to buy this on ebuyer as I just got my dell vostro and was looking for a cheap card to play some older games like BF2 etc. But the chunts were trying to charge me £10 to NI so didnt make it such a good deal - just bought it on amazon for £60 so thats not so bad I guess.

Ebuyer - sort it out - NI is part of the UK and delivery is the same!

@ everyone considering buying the 8800 GT

if you're going to spend £175 on that card, consider spending £20 more and getting the new 8800 GTS 512mb card, much quieter due to the much larger cooling fan and considerably faster than the GT.

dabs have their 'Dabs Value' model which is actually the inno 3d version bundled with Ghost Recon 2 for £195 delivered. got it last week and it absolutely flies!!!!

Remember. This is a 128-bit bus card. Basically kinda of like having a Porsche (the card) trying to speed through a residential road with speed humps (the bus).

I have the MSI superclocked version of the 8600gt (ebuyer £65 6 months ago), and have it on my second rig (3800 x2, 2gb ram). It got 5500 on 3dmark06 and can play R6 Vegas, NFS pro street, and Biosock on max settings at 1024x resolution. My friend has the standard Asus 8600gt which got 4700 on 3dMark06 and he is very fond of it.

Yes. I put one of the fanless ones in, and it works nicely

I ordered the Sapphire HD2600XT DDR3 256mb for £59 from Scan but found out today it's temporarily out of stock. I am considering cancelling the sapphire and ordering this instead. Is this a better card for my Vostro 200?

I don't know if this is DDR3 memory like the Inno3D card but I am a bit of a fan of Leadtek and their highly overclockable kit.

This is DDR2 version and got 12.8GBps bandwidth vs 22.4GBps for DDR3 version (as it runs 800MHz vs 1400MHz). It also comes with 1x Dual link DVI and 1xSingle link, where DDR3 version comes with 2xDual Link DVIs.

Hi, I dont know much about graphic cards. Could I use this to have a HD (1080p) output to my LCD TV. If I buy a blue-ray drive aswell as this graphic card, will my PC play Full HD stuff onto my tv? Thanks
#35
I posted about this here: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/125420/dell-vostro-200-base-unit-2-2ghz-c2/all/all/hot/showthread.php?t=125420&page=33 and thought it was a good deal then.

Others' opinions and the reviews on Ebuyer have swung it for me, especially as I'm not a top end gamer.

I got the Xpervision too and it runs Crysis and Call of Duty 4 fine on Medium settings.

Can anyone recommend any alternative 8600GT cards now this has gone?
