Which ones the better processor this one or this one http://www.hotukdeals.com/deal/23714/inspiron-6400-laptop-387-dual-core- ? Because apart from my first desktop (dell optiplex, 4GB HD, 32MB Ram, P2 I was a complete newbie then and that was only 2 years ago now i build my own! I thought it was a bargain too at £220 for a complete system, Now i pick those up for a £5 - £10 on carboots and sell em for £35) i have never had any experience with Intel chips ive always stuck to AMD! Bearing in mind all i would be using it for is the odd bit of office documents, browsing the net around the house, watching the odd dvd in another room or on the go and listening to some music on via my stereo? How would performance compare on these tasks to my desktop which is AMD 3600+ with 2 GB Ram and 256MB graphics?

I hate Dell. However this has to be one of the better deals for a laptop on the market at the mo.

Good processor, lots of RAM, big hard drive and dedicated graphics.

Hot damn it!!

Got one of these myself last week and paid a little more than that. Very nice machine except the second time I got mine out the screen has failed so it needs to go back. As it is cheaper now I shall be asking them to extend me to 2 years onsite or a refund (Just got to establish if I am entitled to a refund)

It isn't fully dedicated graphics - it's a 50/50 split.

Personally i'd go for the 6400, i'd have a preference for the intel processors, it has a years warranty instead of just 3 months and comes with a free laptop bag.
#7
anyone know if I can get this deal on XP?
#8
and how do I get this through Quidco

The warranty is for a year as all new stuff is. The 90 days refers to the period when Dell will collect and return to you. After the 90 days you have to fund and arrange the return of the item but the repairs are still covered.
#13
Read somewhere that the larger batteries stick out of the back of the laptop. Is this true....I may go for the 9 cell as the 4 cell on my current one is not lasting very long, and never has.

Log into your Quidco account, go to dell from there and when on the dell home page look down the left side for the "shop by ecode" link, click and enter 305 into the first box and N03153 for this deal into the second box with no leading or trailing spaces or it will error on you. That should take you to this deal so you can then "build your dell"

what about getting just XP mike?

what about getting just XP mike?

Go whistle dixy is what dell will say ;-)

They dont seem to want to offer XP on Inspiron laptops, still available on Latitudes in the business section though so I can only say that phoning the order and loosing Quidco is the alternative if you must have XP.
#17
It'a for a beginner and I will be nominated official fixer...I'm not too keen on XP at the moment, would rather have XP. They were also looking for something for £250 max, but I've convinced as much as possible to go for this one. Is there anything you can think of for cheaper/with xp?

Rep Given Mike, not like you need it ;o)

Having said the above its possible to buy some 1501 and 6400 Inspirons from Small business and have a choice of OS, but...

Does Quidco work on SB? and beware that you dont have to same consumer rights on SB as its normally expected that your ordering for a business, not that it stops you from ordering there just DSR wont apply the same as it does on Home site.

Appreciate some help here,

i have just called dell up and asked them if i could have this laptop, with vista home premium.

They quoted me £398.00

i tried to get the bloke to drop the price but he wasnt having any of it, i was thinking of trying again and seeing if i could get it for £370. do you think that would be worth it?

well if it anything like my experience today and yesterday , i would resign from the whole thing , dell is hard work and has brought tears to my eyes today . i had ordered the offer posted other day for the no3153a but wanted to upgrade to the home premium , so having placed order on sat afternoon and no dell customer care avalible till 9am monday i rand them first thing when the system was in pre production asked to change os , was told i coldnt as i was in production which it wasnt! asked them to stall the production . was asured they had. then had several interconecting line changes to various people all speaking very bad english on a bad line . eventually found a supervisor who said he would cancel and reorder with the h/p for same price (£421.83 with 6 cell bat) so i mentioned the loss of quidco which then made new prob
#33
continuation of above !
after supervisor checked quidco and agreed he offered to upgrade the battery to 9 cell to compensate .so i was made up was waiting on confirmationfrom c/s .
then they ring and told me that vista premium not compatible with this processor !!! so as i had it on my screen with it selected i really dont belive them, but try to relay this to someone with briken english thousands of miles away on a bad line !! hopless
so after much ado and no joy i asked to cancell (order is now at carriers ,even tho it was put on hold at pre production)
when i was cancelling my order i was ofered a refund of £40 to keep the current order , so after much thought decided to chance it as it can still go back before 7 days . so after quico my system has cost £365.00 so have i done ok ??? im very stressed lol. i can put xp pro on if i cant get all i need from vista though cant i ??
#34

I am beginning to wonder if this was worth the hassle. I got a mail this morning telling me to return the finance forms as soon as possible so they can process my order for one of these laptops.

My online application for the buy now pay later thing was referred and I have received absolutely nothing telling me if it has now been passed, and no forms. I was supposed to receive a phone call with outcome of the credit referral and again nothing! I have never failed a credit check in my life which is worrying me.

I just got off the phone with CS, and I really struggled to understand the person. She asked if I had sent off a recent bank statement? First I ever heard of that. She said she will get intouch with the credit dept to see whats going on, and they will call me. I am not holding my breath and think I will just end up cancelling at this rate.

My first experience of Dell is not turning out to be a good one at all:x
