Just to let you know, my parents bought the 1701 (i3-330m) early in the year for £429 and it is a fantastic laptop with a very nice keyboard and touchpad.
It has the gloss screen that I'm not big on, but it you don't intend to use it outside then its a mighty fine laptop.
It comes both an HDMI and VGA output.

Built in graphics? Not for me - much better to have a decent graphics card with it.

You'd be hard pushed to find a similar spec with decent dedicated graphics new for this price; although if you're prepared to look at Dell outlet they had some 1749 i5-i71GB graphics machines for around £550 yesterday - one had 6GB ram, 1080p screen and Blu-ray writer as well for £650. [Edit: Sorry the £650 machine was an XPS 16 - I can't remember all the prices on the 1749s]

The GMA graphics on the i3 processor is the best intel integrated graphics so far and will be fine for HD video playback etc. and as a bonus will give better battery life than a dedicated GPU.

320GB SATA hard drive.

Good price for the Acer (which I don't based on a friends experience with his), but no cashback and smaller HD even though its got a dedicated gfx card I'd would check its thermal management if you are planning on maxing out the cpu and gfx for games usage on this (or any) laptop, as poor heat disipation could shorted the laptop lifespan.
(A classic example is the slimline acer desktops overheating problem)

Good feedback jazid

I've got the acer on reservation (there's not many available at Argos right now) - and trying to make my mind up whether to take the plunge

If you are willing to take the risk then its certainly the cheapest games ready laptop with a positive owner review here. However I would advise doing more research before you take the plunge. Or wait a little longer for other deals to materialize...
