Welcome to HotUKDeals Brains and Thanks for your post :)

That looks an amazing deal! Just hope the batteries dont get as hot as this deal probably will! Ive been thinking of getting a lappy for a while now but been put off by the small hard drives on budget ones and also the lack of RAM so unless anybody can come up with a better deal then this one i will go for!

Hold on am i doing something wrong just gone thru checkout and its come up at £551?
#5
You are missing a stage out. On the page the link goes to you will find a row of links - one of which is hardware support. Click on it & choose the top option collect & return. Voila!!!!

Have Dell stopped offerinh Visat Home Premium?
Chris
[mod]#6
You must reduce the support to minimum to get this deal price.

Be aware that the cpu used is a cut down dual core version as reflected in the price, still ok but not a true 1.6 core2duo
#7
change the hardware support to 1 year
#8
note though that at this price it only comes with vista basic, which is just that, they want £60 to knock it up to buisness, not even premium, once you add that it's not a great deal.

Sorry it looked good, but for me fails at the final hurdle

Also its not really a cut down cpu, just an old one. Its a Core Duo rather than a Core 2 Duo

a good basic lappy at a decent price..will suit some who want nothing flash.

i bought an inspiron 6400 (with 9 cell battery, 160GB, upgraded video card) for £637.75 on wednesday and i was pretty happy with that deal but now i see today the exact same spec is £607.87 today and that includes a free case and colour printer. :-(

i take it it's too late to try and get the difference back and that's just how it goes with dell offers?

thanks

Give em a ring threaten return under DSR (distance selling regulations) they should match the new offer at very least. Typically they refund 10%.

Many thanks to Brains for this deal, I just purchased it with a better screen as I do a lot of graphics, total price for me £433.58 delivered.

Format the disk and put a real OS on there

thanks for that. 10% of the difference in price do u mean? i did it through a dell outlet so i'm not sure if i can phone dell directly about this. mmmm.

If you bought it through the outlet then no, you are not gna get any kind of money back. You only qualify for this if you bought it brand new from the dell home website, which you didnt. The dell outlet deals are generally poor compared to what you get on the main site anyways. Take a look at it now and you will probably see some similar spec 6400s at far higher prices than this deal.
banned#17
You can always negotiate with a Dell CS rep. - for either Outlet or main sites. The 10% will be off the price you paid; sometimes they offer more; sometimes they'll offer you a cheap printer for free or an extended warranty for free or at a discounted price*; sometimes they'll just say £50 for example) other times they'll offer nothing at all - it all depends on the CS rep. you get. If you arn't getting anywhere - simply hangup and call again. The chances are you'll get a completely different person; tell them you just got disconnected and try again ;-)

* don't take a warranty at a discounted price as you are 75% guaranteed of being able to negotiate a discounted one when you get near the end of the original 1 year warranty.

PS: this is a great price for a very well built machine.

thanks J400uk and Repo. i'll have a word with them when i pick it up from the outlet. it's only minutes from my house and they seemed pretty helpful. reason i went there rather than ordering myself online was coz if something went wrong i thought it would be better dealing with the outlet.

i'm sure they won't give me anything, but i guess that's the gamble of when you buy from dell. the week before i bought it it was about £30 more expensive. that's life i suppose. i have a printer and it's only £30 i've lost out on at the end of the day.

cheers

I'm not aware that Dell actually have a physical Outlet...the Outlet is in Ireland as an offshoot of the factory. (Delivery currently £60)
I assume this is an agency of some kind that resell Dell machine, much like many of the sellers on ebay. Can't see a price reduction coming if this is the case and you will also not be able to take advantage of the DSR as you imply that you physically went to them.
...and then again you could live in Ireland, right next door to the factory.:-D

Psh gimme another 60 quid off by taking out Vista. Then throw it in the bin. 30 security checks a second using up 50% of one of my CPUs? no thanks!

Good deal nonetheless. I need something to replace my old HP that runs at 100ºC (cpu/hsf have come apart... its so poorly made you cant seperate the mobo and the keyboard to look at it without breaking it due to lack of safety latches etc.).

EDIT: the rest of this post is no longer relevant!
#21
Borandi, I'm not sure what you mean but the second system you configured can be purchased cheaper again by using evalue code 305-N03647.

Configure this ecode system to match your required spec and the total price will come to £607.87

It is a excellent deal if you are looking for a decent spec laptop.
I ordered one yesterday and delivery is planned for end of March.
These laptop sell on Ebay at over £400!(used!)
Thank you!

Hi, how does this compare to http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=422082#post422082
in terms of a good deal for what you are getting?
[mod]#25
Not a lot in it, the pb has a slightly better cpu, smaller harddrive, shiney screen if you like them, is a refurb where the dell is new but I doubt that makes much difference, graphics will be close, both now have XP if wanted. Flip a coin really.
Dell can of course be configured with extras...
#26
Thanks for your reply, Do you know if this as well as http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55630 finish on Thursday or do they contain special offers that will finish after the weekend? Also which would you say between the 2 is the greatest deal, thanks.

what are the chances of this laptop playing call of duty 2?

What are the benefits of the Intel over the AMD above?

I reckon you will have a better chance with the AMD rather than with the Intel one... coz the integrated graphics on the AMD platform is much better.

Packard Bell's are arguably less reliable than dell... and no chance of pulling the call up pretending to want to return under DSR for freebies/10% creditback either.
The dell will outlast it battery wise too.
Some of the PB refurbs will have minor cosmetic damage too of course.

If you go through Small Business you don't get the same rights as if you go through home. i.e. you can't send back within 7 days if you are not happy with it. I even struggled cancelling an order for a screen once through the business section which hadn't even been shipped.
#36
DSR rights, UCTA rights, and 1999 regs are severely restricted for business - if your not dealing as a consumer don't expect sympathy if something goes wrong as far as the law is concerned.
