Dell 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Mini Card

Once you have added to your basket, make sure you select 'BUY NOW & SAVE! VOUCH OFFER [price -£50.00] -SPECIAL OFFER-'

These seem like a bargain to me. As said, loads are available at the moment.

I have checked several machines, and some list Bluetooth, some don't so double check before buying.

EDIT: Make sure you chose one that says 'LCD Back Cover Black with WWAN'. These have built in Mobile Broadband, and can be used with any SIM card!

Not as good as last time, but still a decent price :)

Have this exact same spec. and love it! Has the WWAN mobile broadband card built in too which goes for £50+ on flea bay if you dont need it. I have windows 7 installed on it and it runs great once you tweak it a bit and turn off hibernation and few other things to free up the ridiculously small 8GB hard drive.

EDIT: got mine for £153 delivered though, but this is still a good deal, especially when there's plenty to go round

wow, i didn't realise that was included!

I can't understand why the linux models aren't cheaper. Surely they should be?

EDIT: I think there are some cheaper 4gb linux ones, but the 8gb ones seem to be the same price.

That's a 16GB one, this deal is for the 8GB for £191 before discount, etc that says "LCD Back Cover Black with WWAN, That may be a typing error though, the one I ordered only mentioned the WWAN in the main description and didn't even show up on the order confirmation pdf

Not sure either, but looking at the spec and number available I would guess that a big customer (Possibly a phone company looking to give these away with Mobile Broadband) has cancelled an order.
#9
I still dont see the sim card thing - am I going blind?

ok, did research....

The WWAN is the sims card! its never that clear is it?

But you would still have to purchase a separate contract to use the mobile broadband, right?

Also, what's the delivery charge? 4gb linux model just went down to £132 inc VAT exc Delivery. Wondering how much it would come to in total. I'm guessing around the £150 mark. that might be more worthwhile because I would upgrade the RAM anyway.
#11
If you want to be sure you're getting the WWAN use search filter for the processors and select " IAT-1660 " and it comes up with " Inspiron Mini 9 (Config 2C) , 1.66GHz, 0.3MP, XP with WWAN " which is what was on my description.

If you download dells wireless manager software you can run the mobile broadband using any sim card in it, I have the data bolt on on my o2 sim and use in the card slot behind the battery when I need too:thumbsup:

Delivery is £19 +VAT

Not sure I follow.

Selected IAT-1660 and 4 mini 9s showed on the list... none of them had the WWAN.

Method I used was manually clicking on the system identifier until I found one with WWAN

Seemed to work fine.

Remember though, Dell have stopped making the mini 9's
#17
Thanks very much. I just ordered two of these. I thought I had missed the boat on these with 3g which really makes having a netbook worthwhile.
#18
Make sure you select the Windows XP OS, as these are the ones Vodafone use.

I have not seen an Ubuntu machine with the WWAN option. It is possible someone customised it to include it, but you stand a better chance of finding one with the MS OS.

I have a Mini 9 with the WWAN, and it does work with a Vodafone SIM, I have not yet tried my Virgin Broadband sim.

The WWAN card does not look like it can be transfered from Mini 9 to Mini 9, as if your machine was not built with that option, the connector is not soldered to the Motherboard.

Shame the Mini9 has an unusable keyboard.

Mini10 keyboard is lightyears more useable and almost full size keys.

Just choose any of the ones at priced £191.04. Click the system identifier to make sure it has WWAN or WLAN listed, then add to basket. Make sure you select the Save £50 Promo from the list of accessories.

Netbooks don't have an internal DVD drive so you will need to use a USB one.

Thanks for the reply Sim. I saw that £191.04 and thought it was that one and actually added it to my basket. It has been removed because of 15mins of inactivity and it doen't look as if there are any more left. Am I right? Thanks any way.

Looks like there are still plenty left.

Sometimes when the product gets removed the search gets reset, so make sure the search is for Inspiron Notebooks.

Can anyone advise please?

I want a small bluetooth enabled PC to stream music from iTunes, Spotify etc. to my bluetooth stereo. Would this netbook do the job?

Thanks in advance.

When you buy a iPhone 3G PAYG, you will get a SIM with 12-month unlimited internet blot. Can you use that SIM for mobile broadband with dells wireless manager? Thank you!

I opened the back of my Mini 9 and there is a WWAN card. Today I am getting an orange dongle with 1gb allowance, so I can just stick the sim card straight in ?

Yeah, it should come unlocked, so it will be fine.

I don't see why not, I dont think there's any restrictions, I was getting really fast download speeds using my ordinary O2 sim with HSDPA , fast enough for BBC i player in high quality to stream seamlessly - real handy for ceebeebies when you're stuck at the airport;-)

I've got one of these but with a 1.3mp camera and upgraded to 2gb of memory and 32gb runcore ssd and Windows 7 installed, very nice. just a shame I have to sell the damn thing now :(

I have a blackberry bold with unlimited data via an orange pay monthly contract. Could I simply use my orange sim in the dell mini to get mobile broadband? Any help would be very much appreciated.

if youve got the wwan card then it will be fine, insert the sim angled end first gold contacts facing you (assuming mini is up-side-down)
If you dont have wwan the sim will disappear and you spend a long time diamantling the mini..like i did on one of mine as id mixed up the wwan one and the non-wwan one
