A great deal! (well I think)

I was in today and got a couple of pairs.

I know people will be complaining that the quality of these are bad, like the usual jeans in the 2 for 25. But these are new expensive ones that where been sold at £35 each and no offer on them at all, and are brilliant quality.

The prices range from £24 to £35, buy two and get them reduced to £25 for the pair!

Sizes range from 30 to 38 waist and 30, 32, 34 leg.

Sorry a joke from an old history lesson at school.

I believe the powder monkey was the lowest job on board a naval ship (officer being the highest). It was normally a job for a young lad who would fetch the gunpowder and take it to the cannons. Often killed first in battle.
If my history lesson is remembered correctly - along time ago!

I personally don't rate the officers club quality of clothing - hence the comment.

Maybe I should take a look inside a store incase things have changed!

I stand corrected myself - I will have to track down my history teacher and have words:

"A powder monkey was the term given to any member of the ship's company who passed filled cartridges and shot during action from the magazines below decks. The sug*gestion that this work was done entirely by ship’s boys is a myth. Eighty to ninety people were needed to perform this task in battle and there were only thirty-one boys on HMS Victory. As the ship’s boys ranged in age from twelve to nineteen, many of them were not really boys.

For efficiency and to ensure a continuous supply of powder, teams of men, older boys and women (when carried on board) were organised on each deck to relay cartridges in a continuous chain between the powder magazines and the appropriate gundecks, with some men stationed at hatchways to hand cartridges up to the next deck. Younger boys were used on the gundecks to move powder from hatchways to the guns and to douse down loose powder around the guns to prevent explosions.

In most cases, the ship would be fighting on one side only - leaving the deck on the opposite side relatively free for the powder monkeys to run back and forth from the hatches to replenish the salt boxes placed well behind the guns. Each saltbox, containing two ready to use charges, was the responsibility of a member of the gun crew."

Wish I had kept my mouth shut

Isn't this the perpetual 70% off store?

How do they get away with marketing like this, I thought there were rules against such selling unless the items were sold at full price for a significant period of time.

Interesting stuff about powder monkeys though.

I think so long as they sell them in ***a*** store at the higher price for 28 days, they can 'slash' whatever they like off and call it an offer!

A loophole in the trading standards legislation.. which we (yes, I do work for them) don't use anymore (since 2004!)
