Just picked up the new Split Second Velocity PS3 game for 24.99 after I traded in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for a tenner. Looked around & was the best resale price I could find for the game - its years old & I've played it to death!

Split Second is raking up a decent meta-score & so far looks to be a class game!

In Split/Second, players don't just race to the finish line to beat their opponents, they build up their power meter through deft driving and trigger "power plays," explosive moments that take out opponents or alter the track. The game takes place within a hyper-competitive reality television show with city-sized sets rigged for destruction. Each track has numerous power plays that can be strategically triggered by skilled drivers.

Competitors in Split/Second don't just collide with other vehicles to knock them from the track - they can trigger blockbuster action film-like explosive events that drastically alter the dynamics of the race. Players must use strategy and pinpoint timing to derail opponents, tactically alter the track or create entirely new routes. As many as eight players can compete online in Split/Second through Xbox LIVE, PlayStation Network and online on Windows PC. Also, two players can race against each other on the same system in the same room through split-screen features.

Black Rock Studio pioneered the innovative heads up display (HUD) affixed to the back of the player's vehicle. The Split/Second HUD showcases the player's relevant information (place, lap number, etc.) on the back bumper of the car, the area of the screen where players primarily focus during racing games.

Doesn't look worth it to me.
GT5 Prologue is about £15 in shops or £10 on eBay. Either way you're basically paying full price for a crap version of Burnout.

I'd recommend getting Burnout Paradise: Ultimate Box for £10 instead.

Everybody has got different opinions of this game....I loved the burnout games.....But man, I absolutely love split/second. I was put off by the mixed reviews, whether to go for this or Blur. I am over the moon I went for this..... single player isnt too bad, not too easy or hard and the multiplayer is awesome. I traded in Fifa 2010 and got this from game for dirt cheap.....Definetly get this game!

I like split second, however it does feel like a cheap version of a low speed burnout. Plus its less about speedy racing and requires more careful maneuvering than I penjoy. BLUR, however is an excellent game, without the looks of split second.

On the pc this game runs like absolute shod. It is NOT optimised for the pc, which is a shame as I am on the lookout for nice online multiplayer racing games for the pc, and burnout is dying down. I got the PC racing megapack, but no one is online on those games, so I suppose blur would have to do.

That is a good deal for a decent game , I have an old copy of GT5 Prologue that i havent played for at least 6 months. Im more inclined to give Blur a go though , the beta on 360 was excellent and the biggest plus is that the internet multiplayer works flawlessly with up to 20 players . I was going to pick up Modnation Racers but keep reading horror stories about trying to get a game online .

ooh...tough crowd...it might be a poor burnout but I got platinum years ago & just wanted something new

Both Blur & Split/Second have the same score on metacritic at the moment 83% which is hardly poor.
