Nearly £100 and it's still plastic. How much do you have to pay for the headband to not be made of plastic? I find with headphones that they never actually stop working, just at some point the headband cracks in one point or another :(
Are they just plastic wow.Just checked three headphones and the headbands are sprung steel with a covering.

Too much bass on these, not good if you're planning to do any mixing / production work. The m40x are £30 cheaper and offer a much flatter response, ideal for that.

But if it's for games & movies, not a bad investment!
Are these good for games and movies? I like a good bass

Just bought these and they are awesome, I couldn't quite afford the M50X's, but found these to be the next best thing. Haven't found them much cheaper than this so thought i'd share.

Now £89.95 with code.
It's gone down to £98.95 with the discount code.
Can someone reactivate this deal? Great price!
139 now.....
Just to confirm the New M50x has exactly the same drivers as the old M50. The only change is the new model has a detachable cable.

Im lucky enough to work closely with AT in the UK and i have A/B tested the whole range M20X, M30X, M40X, and M50X which all sound great but as you would expect the M50 is the key model.

Are they over-ear or on-ear? Also, does anyone know anywhere I could go to try these out before buying?

You're not likely to find them on the shelves of any high street chains, however if you have a google for independent audio stores near to you, any store with a decent selection of headphones is bound to have a pair of M50s/M50Xs available to demo. The M50s and M50Xs are based around the same hardware so if they're just M50s they'll give you a decent idea of what to expect, but the Xs do sound a tad batter apparently.

Nonsense. Just ordered a set at 5pm. Code works fine. Phoned them up straight after some advise on best way to connect them to macbook and their customer service team are very helpfull.
Expired - discount code no longer works.
U right, stay away from AV40's. They have beautifully musical sound, but most of them are dead soon. Usually overheating, volume issues and or channel dead.

I'm stuck between these and the AV40's (£98 at Amazon). I know these have obvious advantages like the fact that it's louder and they're bi-amped but don't know if the cash can stretch that far.....

Can anyone recommend speakers for one that listens to trap music? (Basically dubstep in another form). I've heard M-Audio's studiophile speakers are said to be very well balanced so will be able to hear some of everything but don't know if the bass will be up to scratch.

Can anyone share some experience with high quality speakers? Or any recommendations?

If you want full bass you would likely need to invest in a sub woofer as these types of speakers are favoured by musicians looking for accuracy and balance.
I noticed that the BX5 Carbons going for the same price as the AV40's - it looks like the better option.
Thanks for that. I also read that reliability for the AV40's aren't that great and quite a few people were having problems where one of the speakers would start to go quiet after about a year or so; just outside of their warranty range. Slowly putting me off the AV40's.

I may just have to bite my tongue and pay the extra for these or get those Carbons, do you know what reliability is like for these speakers?

EDIT: What actually is the difference between the Carbons and the D2's?

The lineup has just been replaced. Plus, these headphones are so overrated.

They're good yes, but not the best like so many people make them out to be. Audio Technica advertise them to be monitoring headphones, but they're anything but that. People always like how 'they have great bass and awesome mids' - that's because their FR isn't flat.

http://www.head-fi.org/t/591059/a-concise-view-of-why-the-ath-m50-is-no-longer-king/315

It annoys be beyond belief when people recommend these headphones - something like the SRH440 will be better for monitoring, and for headphones with a similar frequency response to these, the DT770 will be a better option.
Expired. At least one person appreciated it! Not sure why the negs, they don't often drop below £100 in the uk.
fantastic deal!

I think it even works on recent MacBooks that lack the mic/line-in jacks. Just plug it into the headphone jack and enable it in settings as it works like the iPhone ear phone with mic that use the 4 pole 3.5mm jack.
Great for using a Phantom powered Mic on your DSLR/Video Cam! Voted HOT
