The AMDs had almost comparable raw power to the Intels but in real world usage they're miles behind - pathetic for gaming. This new generation will only increase the gap too.

Bulldozers run very hot and are pretty underpowered compared to even first gen Core i CPUs, let alone third gen Ivy Bridge ones.
If you're not overclocking, the Ivy Bridge CPUs aren't bad for heat and use lower power than the previous two gens.
