Intel 530 Series (120GB) Internal Solid State Drive 2.5 inch 7mm SATA 6gb/s

Apparently a quality drive. This is my first SSD purchase. I hope it is reliable.

Good price, but I still think that the Samsung 840 EVO for £54.99 delivered is a better deal.

Intel better than Samsung. Every day for the next several billion years.

I have both of these, the samsung is slightly quicker and maybe even better build quality. Time will tell thought

Samsung is better, far more letters in their brand name. Does anyone actually have any good reasons to back their arguments? All drives fail eventually regardless of brand.

voted hot for the hell of it cause that's the type of crazy **** i am.

Had an Intel SSD in my main PC at home for about a year and half now. Never missed a beat. At the time I bought it, Intel had the lowest failure rate around for SSD's. Think they're still one of the best now. Good price. Heat.

Agree, Intel over Samsung if they're matching prices anyday.

some other (interesting) non-performance comparisons:

Warranty: Intel - 5 years* Samsung - 3 years
MTBF: Intel - 1.2M hrs Samsung - 1.5M hours
idle power: Intel - 125mW Samsung - 45mW
use power: Intel - 195mW Samsung - 100mW

* non OEM drives

The drive in this deal is OEM, so the warranty, from what I can tell, is 1 year, and possibly with eBuyer rather than Intel (I did a bit of searching on this and I couldn't find any clear answer, but eBuyer offer to sell you an extended 2 or 3 year warranty so I'm making an assumption). If this is the case, then the Samsung drive seems the better choice.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF SSD COOLNESS!

Ah I can remeber popping my SSD cherry a few years ago spending £164.99 on an OCZ Vertex 2E drive and joining the cool gang. OK the drive died and I had to send it back but that was when the drives had real problems, they are much more reliable and Intel are a really good make!

No going to wash the car while waiting for windows to load.

I have an Intel 330 since december on my 8yr old Dell and now it's astonishing behaviour, no complains and runs quick with partions for WinXP & Win7. Absolutely recommended!!!

my old X-25M G2 80gb just died on me after 6.5 years pretty much 24/7 usage. lasted longer than any hdd i've ever had. just replaced with it a samsung evo as that's not supposed to be too bad and there were no intel deals at the time.

don't think you'll beat intel for build quality or reliability even if they're not the fastest.

A warranty on a hard drive with eBuyer?

No thank you.

The 40gb Hitachi Spinpoint from a PC I bought in around 2000/2001 was still going strong in a PC I cobbled together for my parents until last year!

(When they inherited my last PC when I got a new one. Their old one, HDD included, was still working fine ... albeit very slowly!)

True SSD's pretty much transform any PC into something that loads not just the OS really quickly but everything else too.

Hard drives are the slowest part of your computer and the older they get the slower they become.

Think of it like this, only if you are old enough to remember. Your old hdd went the speed of the magic roundabout or as fast as Jamie going down the slide in Jamie and the magic torch. Your new SSD goes warp speed like in star trek or faster than Katie price to the papers to sell her current story.
