Can people that vote cold have the courtesy to explain why - so others can benefit from the feedback (e.g. lower price somewhere else, bad experience with retailer, etc)?

They vote cold because its not a tin of beans for half price at sainsburys.

Tis a good price, cant find it within £20 of this price delivered with a quick squizz round.
#3
Good deal, i specced up a few computers with it at £115 on ebuyer

Keep in mind that this is the OEM version so doesn't come boxed with a heatsink/fan and 3 year warranty which is why it's cheaper. Still the best price I've seen for the OEM and nearly posted it myself.
#6
Voting HOT. Because those who don't have a use for quad core (currently not many applications out here thus paying a premium), this cpu more than handles multi-tasking multimedia/gaming combination.

Also cpu is easily clockable to 3.6ghz with an adequate cpu fan.

load of poo, millions would disagree with you.
#8
voted cold as these run TOO HOT!

the quads actually run cooler
#9
The E8*** series are based on the new 45nm core technology, and run cooler and more efficiently than other dual core processors, and i believe most of the quad cores
#10
too hot for what? cpus can manage extreme temperatures, and thers plenty of heatsinks out there that would cool this more than efficiently
#11
So tempted!!!

how can you see when people vote cold???

Great little 45nm cpus LOVE THEM :) I was having problems with a fan and mobo (dont ask) and left the cpu with NO COOLING AT ALL and it was fine at around 70-80c so they ARE NOT TOO HOT AT ALL!
#15
Only marginally cheaper than other places so although it's a good price it's not that big of a OMFGMUSTBUY deal. Also bearing in mind that these are OEMs and don't come with anything other than the chip with sorter warranty.

Voting cold because you had a problem with Scan in the past is totally irrelevant, you either vote hot or cold judging by if it is a good deal or not, which in this case is a cracking deal.

You sir must be using poo as thermal grease, with good grease and adequate cooling these will easily run at 25c on stock frequency. Compared to 40c~ for quads. Please research before posting.

Scan.co.uk is known for being unreliable and poor customer services.

But the price for the product is good.
#18
I've ordered from Scan several times and no problems. Once my order was delayed by one day and they e-mailed to let me know. I'd even opted for the cheepest (Free, AVForums) shipping option.
I would not run one without a cooling fan, but these are much more power/temperature friendly than other processors.

Scan is great, when I go home to the North West I always pop in a buy somthing. Last year we had a faulty motherboard and spent from 9 till 3 in their tech dept building and testing new systems and components after we had exchanged it. So helpful and a great company.

LOL what a load of BS. You clearly don't know what you're talking about. My E8400 chugs along nicely at about 30c at idle. I fail to see how having 2 MORE cores is going to make a CPU run cooler than that.

Speedfan might tell you it's running at 25c but speedfan is ****. Even coretemp over reads but about 10c. Even with good air cooling you'll struggle to get under 30 at idle.

Try realtemp for a more realistic reading for the Wolfdales :)

total nonsense, as the quads are 2 duals stuck together.

if your really worried about the heat just buy an arctic freezer 7 pro they are about 15 quid if i remember rightly and come with excellent thermal compound attached you will have no problems at all.

i was asked why i voted cold and i have put my reason

why would i think a deal is good from a shop that is bad
so a good deal from a bad shop is a bad deal to me as you wont get the service if it goes rong

A lot of people have had good experience with Scan, if you go to their support forum you will find hordes of staff who are more than happy to help and resolve issues. Obviously you wont get a refund for a cock-up you've made.

i'd say this is a better deal

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz Guaranteed to run at 3.00GHZ (1333FSB) - Retail
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-210-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=793

as well as it being double the cores, 8Mb L2 Cache, and faster speed, its the energy efficient edition so it produces less heat.

All this for £146 inc Vat!

£153. inc delivery, which is the figure that matters. Anyways quad is just a number to most people, it's largely useless until software is more optimised for multiple cores.

Overclockers have some good deals, though most of them are wiped out by their silly delivery charges.

Ditto to the above, used them for over four years now and not one complaint. Have ordered thousands of pounds of stuff, returned tens of products (warranty, DOA, etc) and they have been nothing short of excellent. The only issue of late is that their free next day delivery is not really next day like it used to be :(

Anything over a tenner gets a cold vote from some posters. You can imagine the kind of people they are *shudder*

Great deal. Not enough of an upgrade for me, but excellent for those that need it!

This CPU makes 65w of heat.

The coolest Quad makes 95w of heat...

EDIT - Voted warm - not hot imo.

good price but scans service has gone downhill

last 3 orders, all had problems

and another 2 of my friends have been really ****** off with them too

mainly due to the fact that they have a terrible stock system

you can put an order in for an item which is in stock but then nothing till the evening to tell you the item is out of stock???

also i had a multiple item order from them which was not sent out, when i rung them the next day...
"the items were distributed accross many of their warehouses and could not be all collected intime"

if you see hexus forums scan section, there are plently of dissapointed customers and complaints

and thats half the story, ever tried to order in shop? you could be easily waiting around over an hour for nothing, only to be told the item can not be retreived from the other warehouse lol

thats my cold

They do have a poor stock allocation system as it doesn’t assign you an item at the time you place the order. I’ve also had an order held back due to one item going out of stock half way through the day and wasn’t emailed about this to give me the chance to remove that item so that the order could go through. I was told that the only way to confirm that stock has been allocated is to phone about 4pm and check which is a pain.

They consistently seem to fail to deliver orders placed over the weekend on the Tuesday seemingly because they have such a back log to deal with on Mondays.
But I’ve found their customer services to be fine so I put up with the occasional slow delivery of an item; it’s not as if I’m paying for postage anyway. :-D

Why is it you feel you have the right to tell people what criteria people should judge a post by? Personally, I think the retailer has a big bearing on whether a deal is good or not. Evidently so does the person who you were criticising. People are allowed to vote how they like for whatever reason they like, there are no voting rules on this site as far as I'm aware.
