The prices will continue to drop.
People just can't afford what they're asking, and PC's and laptops are an avoidable luxury.

Yeah, don't go out your way to buy this early because of a deal like this. Maybe if it were £20 cheaper, but it is likely we'll see these kinds of prices being the norm in a month or so.

Prices on these have been fairly consistent since launchprice graph Scan were doing similar price this week.

Can't see them dropping £20 in the next month while newer chipsets are being introduced (Z68, X79) and the next family of CPUs is still some way away.

Tempted by this price coupled with the Asrock Z68 motherboard - by the end of the day, I'll have bought two of each or bottled out :3

Which is the best p68 board fir under £100 for this?
#8
I did a massive great big LOL when I saw this earlier this morning. Was expecting an absolute bargain stock clearance that would be gone in minutes like the emachines deal last week, but £8 off? C'mon eBuyer, it's only 50p cheaper than Pixmania

Blah! (Not so much directed at the OP, more ebuyer)

£150 on Scan's Today Only page. I won't vote cold as this might be the better deal tomorow (OK, monday), but for the time being I can't really vote hot.

And don't start with the delivery charge from Scan as if anyone who wants free delivery can get it if they take a few moments to join and post on AVF of Hexus... Soap box away for another week or 2... Heheh!

The Scan £150 deal you have posted is the 2500 which is not overclockable. This deal is for the 2500K, which is.

Ah... Fair play.

Not really that clued up as far as overclocking and so on goes so it'd be wasted on me anyway. I'll keep my fiver and get a couple of pints and a bag of roasted tomorow. Heheh.

No problem - initially I wasn't sure I needed a 2500k but it seems to be easily overclockable (idiot proof?) and it will probably fetch more on ebay in a couple of years time (_;)

Is this any better than an i5 760?

I'm on an overclocked i5 750, which runs stable at 3.6Ghz. The i5 2500k is supposed to easily hit 4.5Ghz+, but gaming performance shows very little jump. i.e. most games are not fully utilizing the quad core i5 750 @3.6 anyway, so see only a 1% or 2% increase in frame rates.

See here:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/best-gaming-cpu,review-32195-5.html

It shows the i5 2500k as 1 tier higher in CPU gaming performance, but they say it's not worth upgrading unless the CPU is 3 tiers higher because the increase in performance will only be marginal.

So I'd say no, and I don't plan to upgrade myself unless I'm building a system for someone who happens to want an i5 750, 2nd hand.

If you were to upgrade you also have to add the price of a new motherboard, a socket 1156 instead of your current socket 1155.

Hope this info helps, and reassures you that we got an excellent CPU in the last 12 months and we're good for a few years yet.

I thought you can only use a socket 1155 for this CPU and not a 1156?

also at Amazon for same price - ordered one from there
