In terms of price its a good deal but not in performance .The 4790k is not very good for high overclocks every review has struggled to get it to even 4.7ghz many having to settle at 4.6ghz.
#2
ok so if this is being voted cold, what would be a good comparable deal?

For this price you can buy a console & games, who cares about slighty better visuals when you need to pay this just for a processor.

cos I already have a PS3, and I'm looking for a decent PC, for music / photoshop / 3d modelling / video conversions, as well as gaming

that isn't the point on a deal such as this. we are pc gamers, these are the sorts of components we need to achieve that, and its not for some noob console gamer to mark a deal cold because they cheaped out on a ps3 or ps4 for their gaming.

agree can't / shouldn't compare PC to consoles, but I already had what I thought was a decent PC at the time I got PS3, and was impressed with it's gfx, I still play a few things on PS3, mostly the exclusives (like infamous), but has now become family / daughters machine with move, LBP etc. (and even she's been playing more PC in last month with steam sale)

Good spot, still early days on o/cing that chip.
First thing to do is uprate the stock cooler, its fine for bog standard use but o/cing needs more 8)

Fab mobo they've included, cant see any better deals on a bang-for-buck ratio at the mo.

Reckon the console cohorts are on just now, wait for the pc gang coming onsite :{

yes they should stick to rating deals for consoles instead of voting pc deals cold because they are not involved enough to do it properly ;)

still not sure current gen consoles would supply my PC needs, but for gaming and entertainment centre XBone is more than capable, titanfall been good fun so far (but then I have that on PC as well, and gets less 'COD kids' there, tho numbers are rising)

For gaming alone, next gen consoles are more than enough imo.

Great review of what this board is capable of here:
Asus Maximus Hero

5GHz is not at all shabby for a sub £200 mobo :{

tinytomlogan gives the i7 a good going over too on the forum if anyone's curious...... 8)

is that a serious comment or just there to wind up the master race :-P its an understatement to say slightly better visuals and you build a pc that will destroy a consoles performance for about the same price as a console with a game or two....pc is much better value over all...games are much cheaper and the price you pay for the performance you get is money well spent

unfortunately haven't seen anything yet which shows a stable oc on the 4790k with this board or any other.

seen a few, maybe not as much head room, so maybe should of gone for 4770k cheaper, then again, I've got a i5 2500k I paid over odds for when they 1st came out, and I've hardly done massive OC than a 'safe' 4GHz with auto volt on p8p67 pro bios, just seems 'quick enough' without over stressing it (except in a very few scenarios) plus I'm still air cooling

Another review: Overclocking to 5GHz? We put Intel Devil’s Canyon CPU to the test. The general consensus seems to be 4.7GHz stable at present.

But the 4770K only got like 4.4ghz, so this is a good cpu for like the same price and runs cooler and other better stuff as well.

how odd, you would think they would make things like this more widely available to the general public instead of the limited scope of subscribers to their newsletter. ah well. thanks for posting it anyways.

I am only guessing as I have never ordered from them; they were probably hedging with limited stock and wanted to channel their marketing towards regular/established customers first. It seems that their model is biased in favour of a tight+loyal customer-base i.e. more frequently you order, more likely to get the stuff...almost like Pix lotto. Furthermore, the sheep are also more likely to forgive their mistakes as they have recieved some good bargains in the past?

never had a problem with scan, but wouldn't say I was a regular user, havn't bought PC stuff from them for couple of years cept for a HDD before this, they do normally have regular bundles on 'deal of the day' page, but yeah, is odd this bundle doesn't show on their site search or web
