I think I'm right in saying that this chip is pretty much no different to the 920 & 930 (aside from the higher stock clock).

I think I'm right in saying that this chip is pretty much no different to the 920 & 930 (aside from the higher stock clock).
So it's different then.

An analogue postulate: A 1.6 litre Corsa is no different to a 1.2 Corsa.

Also, OP should put the model number in his post so that people know this isn't a 920 or 930 right away. :).

ALSO, Overclockers.co.uk .....

Well if a 1.2 Corsa can v.easily be overclocked to perform just like a 1.6 Corsa, then yes...

If you want to overclock.

A 950 will overclock further than a 930, in general.
#5
im tempted to build a new pc with one of these in it...
#6
Of course the 950 is better than the 920/930. Even for overclocking. Naturally its a better sample, higher multiplier helps and it should draw less power and create less heat than the latter two chips when running at the same clocks because of its binning. Less voltage.

This is an excellent deal that has happened no doubt because of the threat of AMD's 1090T hexacore. This despite being down on two cores, is undoubtably faster for most applications such is the architecture advantages intel hold

HOT!

I was going to get a 930, but at that price I may go for the 950.................good find

Too bad I've had so many bad experiences with overclockers. Awful company with a well known reputation for poor customer service.
#10
Good price, aside from Overclockers taking your IMMORTAL SOUL in payment. Crikey, shame it's from them (no offence to the op and I didn't vote cold)

Guess you're unlucky. I've had ~30 orders with them, each one flawless. Quick, friendly after-sale support too.
#12
Hod poor service many time @ OverPricers, rather pay an extra £20 and go Ebuyers.
#13
Just wait for the release for more competitive prices from ebuyer, aria, novatech, and amazon
#14
Ebuyer LMAO

more bad reviews about them than overclockers.

Good price

I haven't seen any evidence to suggest that waiting on the competition brings the price down. I'm looking at the AMD 6 core launch day (what a mess that was), retailers drip selling, prices going up by the hour then down again.

Good price

Yes, because they're a far larger company so have more reviews. Overclockers are a joke, run by a racist.

My only problem with overclockers is with returns.

It took a month for them to replace my faulty XFX HD4890. This would be acceptable if they were shipping to another continent, but XFX never received my card ever. It was one of their "refurb's", which was also faulty, another month later I got another 4890, this one from Asus - with lower clocks than the XFX one I had.

They were perfectly polite and understanding in their communications and delivery time was perfectly fine.
Their return procedure, however, is one hell of a joke.

Good price heat added and who cares who runs the company and what their political views are ! as long as the item is cheap and delivered on time !!

And never goes wrong...

I'll buy when it's a £100 less than this.
Next year probably.
And it IS a good price.
#21
Might sell my 920 D0 and get this instead even though my 920 is at 4GHz..

Thats every bit as bad these days (if not WORSE)

Sell me it for £50
#24
just have to add that I've had terrible experiences with overclockers so I'd happily pay more elsewhere
#25
Good price, but I also had terrible experience with Overclockers, but that is going back to 2003, not sure if they're any better right now.
#26
Apologies. Accidentally expired this. Can a Mod please unexpire! Very sorry
#27
Never had any problems with Ebuyer or SCAN RMAs over the last five years. Mind you, I get through a lot of kit and I've never had a faulty CPU... almost always RAM and HDDs with the occasional graphics card.
#28
OCUK give free next day delivery, respond to requests within a few hours, etc. I use OCUK, Scan, Ebuyer and Aria alot for work. They are all pretty good at getting stuff out to you and have their own way of getting fairly quick support answers. As for returns and problems though, they are all a little below what you would like. The problem is that such a high percentage of the returns to them all are due to user error or lack of knowledge so they are all very defensive with terms and make returns a bit of a faff. That said I will happily use any of the four based on who is doing a good deal for the components I am looking for.
#29
I've made over 50 purchases from overclockers over 6 years, never had problems with anything including the returns process. Horses for courses.
#30
I hate seeing deals like this, it makes me want to rebuild :p
Thank god I don't have the money to entertain the idea.
#31
I've been a customer of Ebuyer for many years, made countless transactions (I make PCs for other people too) and not one single problem. Well, unless you count their competitive prices tied in with their next-day delivery to 11pm service tempting me to buy too much from them.

Anyway, £234 is cheap for this processor (Ebuyer has theirs priced at over £400) but why is it pre-order when the processor's already out?

Probably waiting to buy affordable stock following Intel's official price drop.

About time the prices started dropping.
Maybe one day the 980x will cost less than a complete 920 based PC.

Neither Overclockers or Ebuyer are bad companies. I've had almost £10k of business between both of them over the past 9 years without any serious cause for concern.

Seriously. If you don't like the company, don't buy from them... They're both big enough not to miss your custom. Just don't troll around their deals making stupid irrelevant (or baseless) accusations. Save that for a review site.
#35
If you don't like OCUK or Ebuer then stick with Scan, awesome company.
#37
Was tempted until I saw the price of i7 motherboards! Think my existing Q8300 quad has some life left now! An Amd MB that can run a hex core is only £80 and they have usb3, I can see why intel have been losing business to the 6 core AMD's now.
#38
Theese will still only overclock to 4.2 ghz unless you have water cooling you might get a bit more its only like the 920 and 930 just a higher clock so nothink specail.
#39
this processor is generally now selling for around £225
