I wish these retailers would just get there prices down to the 50% level. I mean its great for average bargain hunters but for us extreme couponers it is no fun. I want an I3 4GB Win 8 lappy for £150 :D ..... I will probably just cheap out and get a Windows 8 licence just so i can run Visual Studio 2013 for free.

hehehe don't we all!?!

Excellent find OP although I suspect someone will come here and tell us why it's cold as hell (?) and they can get something 10times faster with a 40TB SSD drive for the same price with Windows10 :D

This is the 15 inch version with a better video card. Use AMD GCN arch. About 100 pts better than 840m

why are you pushing another laptop when you said this was the best you could get under £500 yet this new alternative is 100pts better on the GPU albeit it's a 15" screen??

I've got a couple of mates who work in the states. Just a shame they already came back early else I would be begging them to bring me stuff back. Free shipping after all.

If you use paypal it might be worth checking out the discount code on their all offers page - it's also for a 15% discount but the expiry date is 20th December.

There's no limit to what you can post on HUKD so as long as it's a deal then the more the merrier

Its all about preference I guess. I noticed the 15 inch gaming laptop but 17 inch screen at lower price is more rarer.

Note this is 2Ghz cpu with a turbo boost to 3.1ghz

still a cracking price!

that's fair enough. so in your opinion which is the better laptop of the two given the price point and performance difference is only slight one way or the other?
#15
Just in case there's some that got carried away, the GPU can not do 1080p gaming, I think many wouldn't expect that, but for those that do, well it doesn't so don't be disappointed :)
#16
is it quad or dual core? can't see it stated.
#17
I tried to tell the other lot that that went for the 840m lappy but the Nvidia Fan Boys where like "This Lappy can take over the world!!!!"
#18
Dual since its a ULV. It got hyper threading though.
#19
since this is not a proper gaming laptop, would this laptop heat up when gaming?

Can someone please explain their returns policy to me:

'Products - you have the right to cancel and return the Product (Cooling Off Rights). That right is for 14 calendar days beginning on the later of the day after:- 1) the day you receive your Order Confirmation OR 2) the date of delivery; '

So does it mean after it has been delivered I have 14 days returns policy, or is it 14 days after the day I bought it (i.e today)?

Most likely if you thrash the hell out of it. Just make sure you put it on a dock if you want to use it for gaming and .......... Dont attach it to a big screen.

Bought one of these earlier today, a 15 inch laptop is much more practical for my needs than a 17 inch. Be interesting to see what dell does tomorrow on cyber Monday!

Yes so basically the day you get it you got 14 days to see if you wanna keep it.

To test it this is what you should do.

1. stress test it and see how hot the cpu gets.
2. benchmark it on frames.
3. test the battery

Cancelling should be free.
I believe that there is a £20 fee to return the laptop and it must be within 7 days of arrival.

Hm... I've gone for this and here's a decent review: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-Inspiron-15-5547-Notebook-Review.122261.0.html
The website seems happy enough with it but the comments moan a lot.

The only thing really troubling me with the spec is the screen not being so hot; so I was pretty frustrated when I spotted this deal - with a 1080p screen - about two mins later:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/medion-akoya-p6647-i5-laptop-456-medion-shop-uk-2068790
Can't find out much about this laptop - it has a DVD drive - but seems like the extra for the screen might be worth it.

And to really confuse everyone then I'll just point at this:
http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.MNJEK.005-Acer-Aspire-V3-572G_1680953.html
Haven't got time to make a deal out of it! Sorry... But it's apparently possible to shoehorn in an SSD (mSata?) and keep the mechanical 1TB drive. A bit porky at 2.7kg though.

Thanks for the reply. Is it 14 days in total to both request the cancellation and send the laptop back by?

Dell collect it back with their courier (probably UPS) and you should contact them within 7 days just to be safe.

Didn't realise about that lovely 15% Paypal code. If you have an AmEx card (and can pay by Amex, ie it doesn't force Paypal usage), then with the £100 cashback on Amex, the 17" 7000 model is only £180 more than this 15" deal, and a much nicer machine.

The Amex deal is on til mid month, and the Paypal code 20th Dec, so you have plenty of time on this one- who knows, maybe a better price will appear on the 7000 too?

I would say Lenovo, Dell and HP all are guilty of rushing about 25% of their orders though and end up making big mistakes. Out of all 3 I would avoid Lenovo. This year Lenovo has had terrible customer support and has faced many ombudsman enquiries. HP on the other hand is average and Dell tend to be about the same.

What you don't tend to hear about is Acer but I can tell you that Acer laptops tend to break a lot. The only reason you don't hear about it is because Acer users know how to fix the machines because they are easy to fix.

I'm not to sure about ASUS and Toshiba. I know MSI make good laptops.
