Searched before posting and found nothing.

Seems to be the cheapest around at the moment, especially with the free delivery.

Ordered several things from eBuyer and never had an issue.

Don't think this needs much introduction as most people who'd want this already know exactly what it is and its perks.

That's OEM (no Cooler, 1 year warranty instead of 3), this is retail.

Been out of the game for a couple of years, realistically what sort of overclocks are people seeing with these?

I'm currently on a 2500k @4.4GHz.

I'm currently on a 2500k @4.4GHz.

I'm running a 2500K @ 4.5 in my gaming machine and it pushes a R9 290 just fine. Not upgrading until DDR4 goes mainstream.

That'll be a long time, depending on your definition of mainstream..

for gaming 2500K is still a superbly capable cpu. agreed, that there's usually no point upgrading, unless you want to shave off some wattage and heat from your pc.

Not in any rush to be fair, I won't be wanting to upgrade my GPU probably for at least 12 months and seeing as the CPU isn't bottlenecking it there's no point in moving until then anyway.

Saying that, my definition of mainstream isn't waiting for everybody to have one, just the initial price drops. :)

Never buy OEM, foolish to do so..........

still running an i7 950, its old but does not bottleneck a GTX 780 so no point in upgrading for me yet.

good price though

Surprised at that as I would put that behind the FX 8350 now. It was sandy bridge which offered the big jump in performance.

Too true. All the decent overclockers will have been cherry picked from the tray along the way before you (as the final customer) get yours.

Typical overlocks for this chip at sensible non-degrading voltages (e.g. ~1.3V max) seem to be 4.5GHz - 4.7GHz.

I'd upgrade if I was you. The money you'll save on the electric bill will probably pay for this ;)

I've just gone from a 4.8ghz 2600k to the 4790

I've just gone from a 4.8ghz 2600K to this 4790K. Not worth it in the slightest. I can only squeeze 4.7ghz out of it before hitting a temperature barrier (80 degrees plus) and that's only 1.260v. The reports of this chip hitting 5ghz on air were complete lies. 4.8ghz is top end if you have a good chip

"..... The reports of this chip hitting 5ghz on air were complete lies. 4.8ghz is top end if you have a good chip......"

Rumour, backed by forensics like the manufacturing date of L3 [= 2013], has it that this joker is actually a binned 4770K. Yes, the rejuvenated "TIM" and the 5GHz toothfairy tales are there to snare those who cannot deny their addiction to self-damage. After all, a real human always tries his best whereas the relative human will try his worse and calling that joke his best. More so when "parts binning" is merely lobotomy performed under the duress of "fabulous" yeilds.

Hence my confusion at why so many people have undying love for Intel. Horrible company.

eBuyer is OK. Afterall, which would you prefer? The covert/Cunning dictator who steals quietly by comforting you towards your very debased desires via tricks like "Elections" and "Democracy & Freedom" or the overt/Cruel dictator whose very actions merely strengthen your resolve to depose him asap. Well punk, which one shall it be? Some macho woman or eBuyer? Eet ist not as simple as zat? Well, how simple would you like eet, sweets? From the back where you cannot see it but merely feel it or upfront and on yer face?

eBuyer is AOK so long as you know what to do when numpty is posturing some superficial fit. Why? Beecuz that is what your hot poker was construct for. To make a man-mountain out of some molehill. Contrary to popular belief, cheap/free energy is not the solution but the problem when most are mere vacuous Waste N Want parrots. Or what the Chinese colloquially describe as Working Like a Blind Cockroach.

I'm still using a i7 920 at 4.5ghz with a gtx 770 no bottleneck. Pointless upgrading till ddr4 I think :)

Of course it is. Why is this a surprise to people?

Intel didn't open new fabs especially for Devil`s Canyon did they. There was no architectural change. They simply took the best binned silicon from the line and added a new package with a different TIM and additional caps to smooth power delivery. They never claimed anything different.

".... They never claimed anything different ..."

Yes they did and that is via "reviews" on IT websites and in "forums" whereby "Devil's Canyon" is perceived to be 5.0GHz capable. Just because a paedo is molesting some child but saying that "I didn't do anything different" does not mean that it is OK. Propaganda utilises the gambling/dual/doubtful nature of humans to make up anything to fuel their addictions. When you see another whose DNA is to gravitate towards the edge of a cliff does not mean that suggesting suitably free-falling cliffs is a good way to conduct business. It is one thing to facilitate Cruelty to awaken one's Respectful nature but another to facilitate Disrespect to Self via Cunning/Comfort.

Perhaps revolting agains such DNAs is another good ole "We didn't do anything different" counter to those whose mantras are An Eye for An Eye and Ve Vill Not Take NO fur zer Answer. You know, those who own The Oral Gymnasium, presided over by Stange Bedfellows who hobby is to wear funny wigs when they are adjudicating over matters of balance, a balance anchored upon the aforesaid 2 mantras. The reason why "Westernised" culture is now at an all time low and about to sink lower than thought possible and still the addicted are looking forward to more SS&S, oka Cruelty & Cunning. A state where GoodCops-BadCops dish out every moment of their existence.
