It was the cheapest i could find. And it's for today only! (or until ~1pm)
Also bought a corsair 550w PSU.

They were both cheaper than eBuyer.

What's with the cold votes?

Find it cheaper elsewhere and i'll cancel my order with scan :-)

A bit of heat from me. Just cancelled my ebuyer order to order from scan.
#3
Strange, cheapest price so should be hot.

For those that don't know, this has 8 threads rather than the 4 of the 750 (eg hyperthreading enabled), plus more latitude on the turbo function.

Of the three current examples, its the one I would go for.

nice deal. TBH most people arent that computer literate so probably dont understand why this cpu is worth so much.
#6
Yeah, i guess.
Not really sure why people vote on things they don't understand tbh (same thing could be said for election day?).

Ah well, atleast one person saved some money so i guess it was worth it :)

It's should not be about the price relative to other processors though it should be about a price comparison for this product with other retailers. I was waiting for it to go down again but decided to order at the higher price. I am sure it will go down in the future but at present this is the best price I have seen. Thanks again.

It will go down. The prices we are seeing now are early-adopter prices which always have a premium.

Anyone advocating the i7 920 should be aware that the motherboards for this new cpu are somewhat cheaper, as it integrates various electronics (north bridge, PCI express bus) onto the chip rather than having external chips. It also only requires 2 channel memory instead of 3, yet doesn't take any hit in terms of throughput or latency.

only by about £40 -£50

neither "requires" 2 or 3 channel memory... socket 1366 i7 runs happily with 2 memory sticks (should even run with just 1)

Where socket 1156 takes the "hit" is in SLI and Crossfire setups

also an interesting read here, they recommend either the i5 750 or the i7 920, they dont think too much of the i7 860 & 870 http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2009/09/08/intel-core-i5-and-i7-lynnfield-cpu-review/11

These are also much more energy efficient than the 920i
