The Intel® SATA Solid State Drives (SSD) delivers leading performance in industry standard 2.5” form factors while simultaneously improving system responsiveness for client applications over standard rotating drive media or hard disk drives. By combining Intel’s leading 34nm NAND flash memory technology with our innovative high performance controller, Intel delivers its next generation SSD for native Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) hard disk drive drop-in replacement with enhanced performance, reliability, ruggedness and power savings.

Since there are no rotating platters, moving heads, or fragile actuators, unnecessary delays due to spin-up time or positional seek time that can slow down the storage subsystem significantly, are absent. The Intel SATA SSD enables fast read/write access times and a significant I/O and throughput performance improvement as compared to rotating media or hard disk drives.

seems to be the going price at the moment...

also remember that new intel drives should be coming Q4 2010, so these will drop in price soon as the clearance of old stock starts

If rumours are to be believed the new coming generation are going to be much cheaper than current models.

I hope so, but I haven't heard these rumours. But we are due a price drop really.

I think it's more likely that the Hybrids will take off before the price of SSDs drop significantly. All the benefit with a fraction of the cost.

I just find SSD drives too expensive and cant justify me buying it. I recently bought a Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive for around £90 for 500gb. I think its not a bad drive, reboot takes a lot less time and apps u regularly use are quicker. Hybrid might be an option for ppl who want fast drives but cant affort the SSD price.
