Wow nice, didn't know that you could get a 1TB 2.5" without an additional power supply.

Think I'll wait for a usb3 version. It'd take over 8 hours to fill this drive via usb2.

INTENSO!!!! :)

I don't like the "Y" lead. Flaps about and iriitates me on my Seagate drive. Still hot cos cheapest 2.5" drive around?

if it comes with y cable does that mean it requires 2 usb ports to power the drive?
#7
do you think this would slot into a ps3 as 1tb 2.5 drives are more expensive than this "bare"

I've bought smaller (e.g. 250Gb) drives that came with Y cables.
Sometimes it's the drive that needs more power than a single USB port can provide.
Sometimes the USB port(s) may provide less power than is needed - e.g. certain laptops

I think it's better to have a Y cable than not.

great drive, I have the one, is like german car, the one to break...

can this be used as an internal drive on a laptop?

Hot.
I'd also liek the know the height of the bare drive inside. Would be good if it was 9.5mm, to go in a PS3.

A modern PC shouldn't need a y-cable.

I have a 500GB external 2.5" and I use a standard usb cable with mini usb(b).

I plug it into my Denon amp for music and that also supplies enough power.

Just found this review on Ebuyer for the 640GB version. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/232565#reviews
review by:Anonymous
rating: 5/5 customer rating
operating system:Windows 7

Excellent
I picked this up for around £55. Performance is very solid for an external USB2 HDD.

HD Tune pro reports read at 34 MB/s and an access time of 17 ms.

Real world write tests:
680 meg (single file) ~ 30 seconds. [22 MB/s]
2.2 gig (400+ mp3 files) ~ 2 minutes [18 MB/s]

Browsing the drive in windows explorer feels snappy and it wakes up very quickly after plugging it in.

This drive uses the new Y USB cable but does not require both to be connected on a well powered USB port.

So it seems the drive only needs 1 usb port.
