I believe with John Lewis you get a 2 year warranty plus unlimited returns, so might be best with John Lewis.

ebuyer one is 2-year guarantee too, in fairness.
This gives me a bit of a dilemma, as have a WD 1TB Passport on the way from Amazon for £89. This is £20 cheaper, but not sure if that is worth straying from what, for me, has been a proven and reliable brand.

is the 500GB one at £49.99 the cheapest available at JL?
According to Amazon reviews it does. Pre-formatted to FAT32.

That makes it MAC friendly. You can easily change it to NTFS, if you want to move bigger files onto it. I've had Intenso in the past and am impressed by them, and will probably buy one of these tomorrow.

That's not foxh0und's main point. John Lewis has updated their returns policy earlier this year to accept "unlimited returns" within the warranty period. No hassle. Bring in the faulty product and receive a refund or replacement on the same day. Did it with an iPad that failed on me. (battery died).

I had the same WD drive but it died on me after 11 months. I lost 250gb of data. WD did send me a replacement drive for free after I sent them mine. I took my fathers laptop in recently for a replacement hard drive and that too was a WD drive and the shop said they've been getting a lot WD drives in recently and that they recommend Hitachi as they very rarely get those in with faults.
