Storyline
Based on a true story. After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandoned his possessions, gave his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters who shape his life.

Which says more about you than about the movie. I suggest you stick to Fast & Furious.

For the rest of us, a deeply affecting film. I never tire of it, and it inspired the most life affirming 4 weeks for me on a solo road trip through Alaska last summer. We can all question the motives of Chris McCandless, but when a story can move like this one he clearly made his mark - something most will never do.

Boring only to those without a soul. Buy it and make up your own mind.

Regardless of the outcome, this film made me want to travel so badly. Absolutely brilliant film.

Chortle. Or should I translate that for you? 'LOL'
I feel dirty just typing those words.

The film really struck a chord with me. Gripping right to the end, with even Vince Vaughn giving a decent performance for once! Great indie film.

Such a powerful, brilliant movie. It sounds corny but this film changed my outlook on life (I'm off backpacking around the world early 2012 - something I wouldn't have dreamt of beforehand). Watch it!

I see the pretentious crowd is out in full force today, one guy doesnt like a film and he only likes fast and furious apparantly, and someone else says chortle (probably never used it in actual conversation) and mocks the use of LoL.

No doubt you've all been pampered as kids like the spoilt brat in the film, enjoy this dross while sat on your high horses

Great movie but not recommended not for bureaucratic types, fascists or the simple minded, i dont understand why some ^ people seem to hate it with such venom.

Those people should just stick to whats regular, I advise Justin Bieber 3D etc

I'm currently reading 127 Hours/Between a Rock and a Hard Place, and Aron Ralston cites the book of Into the Wild as a major inspiration for him (the film hadn't been made when he had his accident). I've seen this film, loved it, and now want to read the book as well. It's £4.48 on Amazon. Jon Krakauer also wrote Into Thin Air, and also recommended is Touching the Void by Joe Simpson.

Good film

But damn he was a total fool... I don't mean to be harsh but watch the film and afterwards read about him.

He experienced many good things but at the end of the day he was very stupid and failed to listen to the advice given by many locals.

I wonder ... if I watch this film will I be cured of my materialistic "addiction" to visiting this site on a daily basis?

Horses for courses. I absolutely love this film and at the same time equally love the Fast and the Furious films and as stated the soundtrack is awesome (that's in my and samejh's opinion remember!)

An enthralling piece of cinema and I was physically upset at his fate.
Eamer, everyone is allowed an opinion but you are wrong, felt I should point it out to you.

High levels of hypocrisy detected in this thread..
Looking at some of the comments I cannot help but snigger – a bunch of materialists in an ecstasy over a movie which is the absolute opposite to what most of them stand for and represent.

How can you just assume we are a bunch of materialists? This site is about helping others, wether it be through helping them find a cheaper holiday, or yes, get the best deal on an iPod, it's primary function is to help. How narrow minded can you be?

I would consider my sister to be far more of a materialist then me; she visits the city every weekend to spend her money on clothes, shoes, makeup etc. She has to have the latest brands, bla bla bla. I come on here most days to check for deals like this... great films, great games, hard drives to store great films and great games, running equipment. And I'm the materialist? No my friend, I just like to get the best deal on things so I can save my money to do things like go travelling, or see friends.

So please, don't come trolling threads making comments like that, because it just makes you like like a moron.

I don't like a film that others do so apparently I'm stupid and should "stick to" the fast and furious?

Honestly, Into the Wild and the Fast and the Furious are two of the three films I've fell asleep watching... or trying to watch (the other being Lost in Translation).

I don't really need to defend myself but I do watch a number of films that are seen to be intelligent, thoughtful and brilliant. Just this one, bored the **** out of me.

Favourite films being: Requiem for a Dream, La vita e Bella, Oldboy, Reign Over Me and Little Miss Sunshine.

Sorry but just... nothing happens in this, goes for a walk, hitches a ride, lives in a bus, rejects an underage Kristen Stewart, goes for another walk, meets and old man and dies.

Nice one on **** up the ending pal!

To be fair though, you have redeemed yourself with me.. Requiem for a Dream is such an amazing film.

Hey! Thanks for the spoiler. You've just saved me on spending a whopping £2.99.

(If you tell me how Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings finish ... I'll really be quids in!)
:p
