Interesting point...

But here is a followed comment:

Not sure what this reviewer was doing but I have one it works perfectly on Windows 7 (64 bit too!)

£78.56 after QuidCo, not sure I've ever see a 1.5TB USB this cheap, bear in mind once formatted: 1395gb (yes you lose over 100gb on NTFS and due to how they calculate space) will take 11hours to transfer over 35megabyte/second ceiling that is USB.
£72 drive + £13+ eSATA enclosure means no such bottlenecks, for those who care.

It's got nothing to do with NTFS, it's the difference between how company marketing calculates space and how computers do.

I had no problems with the 1Tb version bought 6 months ago and have used it reasonably intensively, this is exactly what you need where you need to store a library of HD films. Ordering online went relatively smoothly,

For some reason when I selected the buy online it went straight to the payment procedure without stage to put the code in. Before entering the card details I exited the browser and restarted steps quidco, to comet web site , click on the basket(stored from previous attempt), enter the code. Verify deduction, procedure with payment.

Quidco sent e-mail to confirm tracking which is usefull.

Thank you for correcting me in such a kind and polite manner :roll: but yes how HDD manufacturers calculate space and the space lost on formatting means you only get 1395gb that you can actually use.

Nothing to do with the formatting type - it's just basic binary/maths, and the argument that 1024 is "close enough" to 1000 that it makes no difference. Pretty much all 1.5tb drives will read as around 1350-1400gb by your computer.

1kb = 1024b
1mb = 1024kb
1gb = 1024mb
1tb = 1024gb
So the 1.395 gig you mentioned = 1.395*1024*1024*1024*1024 bytes
= 1,533,818,720,748
So it's easy to argue it's actually more than 1.5tb

Getting back to the deal - great price :-) HnR+

Personally I'll hold out for a price drop on WD MyBooks, though, as I've found them exemplary so far.

Got two of these last week @ £89.99 each, compared to my WD external drives these run very cool at around 25c - 28 cwhere as the WD's run at 38c - 45c in the same room. Personally I would recommend this over the WD's as less heat is always better.

BTW: the drive is a samsung 154ui on offer at http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/Samsung+HD154UI+EcoGreen+F2+1.5TB+SATA-II+3.5%22+Hard+Drive+-++OEM+?productId=37094 for £63 + del (drive only)

to be fair mine didnt work neither with windows 7, but it was an earlier model (1TB) and maybe a firmware was needed for it. Having said that mind started to develop a fault with a loud clicking sound but was still able to access the data within a year and i only used it for storage

It should be - they sell it on the Apple Store:

#17
i know is good price,
but WHY they do not do esata ???
#18
Good price but it looks a bit of a brick.

If 1TB's enough I'd rather have the £63 1TB www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002TV5JWW/ 3 year warranty too.

Totally agreed - Having an esata enclosure myself, it's not that difficult for them to have something that has the usb and esata connector, infact esata doesn't really need much else circuitry wise - it's just a sata to Esata connector. They might add a switch or something in the electronics for it to switch from usb to esata, but it's such a easy addition.

Definitely is. Bought one yesterday. Plugged into Macbook (OS X 10.6.2) recognised immediately, re-formatted in disc utility to Extended (Journaled)

Great drive - runs cool and quiet.
#21
Yes I wish the drives came with esata, usb 2 is just too slow for large transfers. I guess esata will be skipped and they will go straight to USB3 on these drives, which is a shame as my motherboard has esata and i'll never get to use it.
#22
3 year warranty too, which is nothing to be sniffed at.
#23
Hot!!! Compared to other posts.

Just looked on Iomega's website and it looks as though it is definitely compatible with most Macs :)

per gb price this one works out £94 for 1.5tb, which is quite a bit more expensive.

Still only £81 with 10HD voucher code though

I bought the 1Tb version of this recently from a Staples sale.

The drive would not work with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and I had to return it.
#34
Hmmm.... why are comet so cheap?

Whats the catch?? ...

I'm getting a 'Sorry this item is out of stock in your area. Please remove it from your basket' message when I select the home delivery option, so it won't let me buy it!

Yes but if they don't have any stock in your surrounding area it doesn't matter they won't deliver - basically out of stock in Western Scotland by the looks of things.:roll:
#39
Wouldn't touch this with a barge pole - poor quality drives IMO.

This is only £4 cheaper than it was when I bought it (without code) a few months ago.

Probably because not everyone has an esata connection on their pc.
