I know it's been posted before but they are back in stock both instore and online.

The Seagate Barracuda in mine is a later drive ST31005 28AS so hopefully no firmware bugs.

It's well made, looks good, not too big, quiet and running reasonably cool.

I also notice Seagate drives have a 5 year warranty so I guess the bare drive could be taken out and returned if necessary .

£65 for an external 1TB is the low end of the price that people expect now. e,g, Scan.co.uk for the Hitachi Simpledrive

yeh but ..this is an Iomega and no postage costs. Tesco have easy returns for refund if ( when ! ) it goes wrong.

I'd never buy a hard drive mail order again, had too many experiences of damage in transit and hassle getting refunds.

I have just been to Tesco and I pretty sure it is that price in-store if you have one nearby.

I've got two of these and they're really nice, they've even got an on/off switch as well as a LED.

I've also got WD and Buffalo externals and they aren't nearly as good.

People voting cold? You don't know what's good for you. This is HOT!

Edited to add .... yes, Seagate drives do seem to have a five year warranty again but this is badged Iomega and has a one year warranty, I don't think you'd stand a chance of claiming five years. Also, it might have a Hitachi drive inside, one of mine does. Still hot though - for the lovely brushed aluminium case if nothing else!

I have a couple of these and comparing it to what else is available I still think this is a good deal, even if not blindingly hot.

The caddies are also easy to dis and re-assemble which makes them good purchases if you ever need to swap stuff about.

cheapest 1tb drive i can find at the moment is this for £67.72 http://www.dabs.com/products/hitachi-1tb-7200rpm-usb2-8mb-3-5--black-625Z.html?refs=396790000
its cold bnecause ebuyer amazon and play.com have 1tb drives at £68-£70. this price is farily average for a 1tb drive. plus those who got cheap 1tb drives at makro and currys would be voting this deal cold as well.

You're a funny guy, not only is this in the £68-£70 range you mention (?!) but it's much better quality than the cheap stuff you're eulogising about. I speak from experience!

Anyway, isn't the test: Can you find this particular item cheaper anywhere else?

The avatar probably explains a lot , buy the cheapest possible and mark up 50% for the customer.

can't you get free delivery with that sim card trick everyone used to go on about?

Cold. It's an average price for a 1TB USB drive, and if you're tripping if youthink that this is going to be of any better quality than any other 1TB USB drive. I'd doubt that Iomega manufactuered a single component in these drives, so this'll just be the cheapest collection of compatible parts that they could source. Case in point, that Seagate drive.
