They're stuck in the 90's with their site - no stock ordering, reserving or stock levels. Admit defeat and accept that you're going to have to get in the car and put up with the push and shove of the bank holiday traffic....:whistling:

not really a deal unless you live near the shop

I guess with these little start-up retailers that happens sometimes - I mean, it's not like they're very big and would have sorted the website first

Yeah because of course its just the website that they need to get up and running

of course its a hot deal, it just no good to you if you live no where near one.

it still deserves heat

not so sure about that . This is hotUKdeals so if my local corner shop did 50% off its no good to 99.9% of the uk so it is not worth me posting it, we all have good local deals some times that why i like web deals were we all got a chance

Best Buy is the BIGGEST US lec firm ( make Comet and DSG look like corner shops),

just starting over here, so give them time.

I've shopped plenty of times with them in the States and I can assure you that when they've squeezed all the local mom & pop outfits out of business the prices creep up and up. They have the same reputation over there as DSG have here.

I have just bought one. Nice and small with a good quality feel about it. Time will tell if it lasts....

Thought they already had that.

Why wouldn't you post something like that? It would be worth it to everybody living nearby that shop.
Just because you don't live nearby the shop doesn't make it a bad deal. I live in Northern Ireland and I don't vote any deals cold just because the shop isn't over here. Its still a hot deal no matter what.

So?

Iomega make terrible external HDs. Avoid.

Do you vote everything cold that you cannot buy online?

Hard drive colour is actually black. A hard drive is a hard drive and all will fail at one time or another. Those that complain about faulty hard drives probably leave it on 24/7!

Thanks for putting up info about it being a dodgy drive, so how can you protect yourself? If no space on your PC hard drive to back up your external hard drive, does that mean you have to buy another hard drive? Is it even possible to have two external hard drives plugged in, where one drive makes a copy of the other?
#26
I've had an iomega 500GB external HD for 2 years now and hasn't broke once, as well as that, it offers multitple ports for plugging in devices and can support a multitude of computers plugged into at once and can change with an onboard switch.

Now I know lots of people complain but it's all about how well you take care of things, not just the hard drive.

Maybe, but it is also the last place you want to buy anything from. There may be bargains, but general prices are just absurdly high, and the customer service is shocking. I would prefer Currys any day (and they are my last resort here).

If people are voting cold because its not online we might as well close down hukd altogether. Possibly the most idiotic thing I've ever read on here, and that's saying something.
#29
this drive died after 2 months, read up on google and you will find a lot fo people have the same issue. this looks great and has a quality feel but the HDD inside is sub standard tat, risky purchase imo.
#30
Avoid this brand like the plague. I used to buy returned/slightly faulty goods at auction, the place was PACKED with IOMEGA stuff. Very poor quality.

What and you think curry's are cheap?

Curry's overprice just as much as any other company!
#32
Nice bait as usual for marketing.Hence heat
Ventured into their Lakeside store last week and the prices were shocking, worse then Comet.
Customer service and knowledge of products non-existent.
will stick with John Lewis, Richer Sounds and Currys.

Curry, PC world, Comet, all retail stores have high prices. Best Buy are just aiming for 100% support and advice.

As for the guy voting cold, the store is about 10 minutes away from me and probably a lot of other people are close by too! Its just off the motorway (m27) so anyone from Portsmouth, Winchester and Southampton can get there in minutes!

my experience with iomega external hard drives has not been good...!
#35
Iomega do not make the hard drives inside, there are only a handfull of hard drive manufacturers that actually make drives and these are the same drives that go into external hard drive boxes like these.

Hard drives will fail, lasting 5 or 10 years is great, lasting 2 or 3 months isn't. If you are relying on 1 source to back up your data and it fails, then you have been a fool. Anything you cannot afford to lose needs to be on at least 2 backup sources.

Typically I use external hard drives for downloaded files. My backup is the internet, if I was able to download it before, i should be able to again. Critical files like My Documents and My Pictures that I cannot get again, these have multiple backup sources and duplicate copies are made at regular intervals.

These hard drives are brand new, with 12 month warranties, to say that brand name A is worse than brand name B is usually wrong. the internals are virtually identical, it's just the branding that varies.

I have seen Iomega branded drives fail at the same rate as Seagate, Western Digital and Hitachi internal drives.
