Hot for me - Iomega are bringing out their new model next month so this must be them clearing the old stock.

Voted hot!
#2
It never was OUT of stock online!
They have been in constant discussion over the firmware updates on the Seagate drives inside.
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/311204/iomega-1tb-desktop-hard-drive-avail/

Ordered one on Thursday, and collected it last night!

None on the shelves though - the stock marker on the shelf edge was still there (instore at Coventry Arena), so they must only have recently sold out there.

What a coincidence - was looking into a 1TB drive last night. Was pondering overthe Samsung F1 or WD Green (both of which are around the £80 mark, then I jumped on here remembering there was a thread just after Xmas regarding 1TB external drives for around the £60 mark.

Do these Iomega drives still use the Seagate 7200.11 1TB drives; are there still firmware issues?

Mine was a seagate with the old "iffy" firmware but it only took a minute or two to upgrade the firmware

This product might come with a 'faulty' drive. Mine used a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11, which I'm guessing all these IOMEGA drives use. Some of these drives shipped with some faulty firmware that will cause your drive to stop working without warning. Basically you have to go to Seagates website, use a program to see if your drive is an affected model, then if it is put in your serial number to check that is definitely affected. The drive checker program didn't find my drive so I downloaded Seatools, and it was affected. Then you have to locate the firmware upgrade on the website, burn it to a CD/DVD, take your drive out of the casing and connect it using SATA to your computer and boot from the CD, then it takes just a few seconds.

I also got a portable IOMEGA drive that came with a USB cable that didnt fit the drive, can't say I'm overly impressed!

Though of course you're stuffed if you don't have a SATA connection.

But why mark expired? I've been looking into 1tb drives also and I saw this, I missed the other post. Thanks OP

Well why have two of each item, maybe we should have a dozen of everything in case someone misses something? :whistling:

All the excess posting doesn't exactly HELP easy scanning of posts, it only hinders.
The other post has been linked in THIS post, so I don't know how it is possible to miss it.

Brill just ordered one. The deal say's expired but it hasn't online!
THANKS.

You've missed his point. During scanning if you see 'expired' you'd think the deal was no longer available. Something like 'duplicate' would be better.

Thanks for emphasising the IMPORTANT words though.

I do wish people wouldn't EXPIRE deals that have not EXPIRED.

Mark as spam by all means but expiring this when the deal is still valid simply because it was posted over a month ago seems plain DUMB to me and I expect plenty of others too.
#18
but the first thread was posted almost 2 months ago, and back then tesco ran out of stock...but now they have it in stock online and just checked at beckton store , instore aswell...

please unexpire

Unexpired now.

Pot_Belly has the right idea, there should be a 'duplicate' button that also has the facility to link to the original posting. Sometimes older posts do get buried and it is nice to be reminded (like the M&S £10 meal deals - tho they are date specific of course). Heads up Mods, give us another button!

How is this powered, usb only or mains?

Mains - USB is only enough for 2.5" drives

If anyone orders and collects it in store I would suggest opening the box in front of staff to check it.

I had ordered 2, got home and one of the drives was badly damaged, the casing was smashed and badly dented, oh well returned it and now waiting to pick up my replacement. Besides now im worrying about the firmware issue and need to check that:oops:.
#25
If you are not happy to disassemble the case and then firmware flash the drive in your pc I would not buy this item. I have bought two and both came with the SD15 firmware which has now been updated.
#26
Anyone got the firmware successfully flashed on an Apple Macbook?

I picked mines up today from Tesco, the box was damaged (packaging) - didn't realise until I got back home and opened the outer parcel packaging (which was just a grey bag).

I have flashed mine too,
Easy to get the case apart for once, didn't remove all of the frame though,it wasn't necessary to get at the connections - just hooked it up to SATA & power cable on my PC.

The box on mine was damaged too - it seems they have been bounced all the way from the warehouse - I will be a bit more careful about checking goods from Tesco Direct in future

Just a heads up to anyone unable to find one at their local tescos.

I saw the same ones in staples today for the exact same price.

they also had core2duo laptops at £249.99 which was nice.
#29
This shouldn't be expired.

I ordered 2minutes ago, picking it up tomorrow.

Clearly not on the same ones as you are! :-(
What have those dead/moderator deleted links got to do with anything?

I repeat, the current most recent deal (with the discount code) is posted here:

Yes except THIS one does not have the discount code

Yes except THIS one does not have the discount code

Only because it was marked expired, preventing edit option therefore not allowing a voucher code to be attached, otherwise it would make the two newer ones obsolete, if the mods were going to delete, they should at least remove the newer ones and unexpire this more established one so as to allow the code to be added.
However in their wisedom they didn't which is good I suppose as deleting would remove peoples feedback etc.
Expired or not, voucher or not, doesn't belittle or make this thread any less uselful :)
